GL5 is an active protection system developed in China by NORINCO designed for main battle tanks. The system gives a full 360-degree horizontal and 20-degree vertical protection with detection range of 100m from incoming warheads such as anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM). Upon detection the GL5 Active Protection System fires two defensive rockets at the incoming threat. The GL5 Active Protection System employs four multi-mission fire control radar for tracking and engaging incoming threats. It is suspected to be installed on Type 99 and VT-4 main battle tanks.
