Robot Monk Xian’er is a cartoon character and a humanoid robot developed by Beijing Longquan Monastery in Beijing, China. The computer program underlying the robot become a chatbot available on certain platforms including Wechat[1] and Facebook[2]. The chatbot interacts with people and help people's emotional and spiritual questions through Buddhist wisdom. Over years, Xuecheng, the abbot of Beijing Longquan Monastery, replied thousands of questions on Sina Weibo[3]. These questions and their answers consist in the data source of Xian'er. The physical robot, located in the Beijing Longquan Monastery, is modeled after a Buddhist monk with a shaved head in orange yellow robe. This cartoon character also appears in many different comic books created by Beijing Longquan Monastery.
