Privatization in the Czech Republic started in 1991 in form of Voucher privatization. It happened in 2 phases - Small privatization and Big privatization.

Background

Dušan Tříska, Tomáš Ježek and Václav Klaus are considered the main architects of the privatization.[1] Jan Švejnar called himself one of the main architects of economical reforms of early 1990s.[2] Jan Vaňous stated that privatization was inspired by British Columbia.[3]

Elected President

Presidential election is expected to be held in the Czech Republic in 2023. The incumbent president Miloš Zeman seeks reelection in 2018. If he is elected for second term, he won't be eligible to run in 2023. The election will most likely be direct.[4] There are also speculations that Miloš Zeman might not finish his second term if he is reelected.[5][6]

Background

First speculations about 2023 election started after first direct presidential election in 2013. Political scientist Ladislav Cabada stated that he expects that new president will be younger than Miloš Zeman when he was elected in 2013. Jiří Dienstbier Jr. was often mentioned as the possible main left-wing candidate. Cabada mentioned Petr Fiala as possible main right-wing candidate.[4] There are also speculations that leader of ANO 2011 Andrej Babiš might run for president in 2023.[7]
