Would other uses be interested in contributing to a uses section which illustrates some of the potential applications for procedural modeling? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ownedfate14 (talk • contribs) 10:13, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
- I can think of some uses, which even have material on Wikipedia written about them:
- Small introduction scenes in video games, such as in Spore (2008 video game)
- Entire video games, the most famous example at the moment being No Man's Sky, a galactic space adventure with procedural generated planets and fauna
- Demo (computer programming)#Procedural generation - part of Demoscene; see also Demoscene#Influence. Included in this is the article 64K intro, among which include the award winning procedural-texture demo called "fr-08: .the .product" by demoscene team Farbrausch
- There might be enough for a new section.
- I recall another less notable example in which blogger Shamus Young developed an entire procedural city and released it as a screen saver. If you're interested in programming algorithms, the blog series he wrote about it is fascinating. The same author also developed a game called "Good Robot" with procedural generated levels, available on the Steam platform. ~Anachronist (talk) 18:28, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
