Operations Architecture allows the ongoing support and management of an Enterprise IT services infrastructure. It consists of a defined set of tools and processes which optimise the control of the IT services by centralising and automating operational tasks. Mainly centered around back-office and data center infrastructure, the operations architecture is the technical implementation of an IT governance framework such as ITIL.

The IT infrastructure of an enterprise will typically comprise many different systems and platforms. Operations architecture ensures that these systems perform as expected by the business requirements by centrally unifying the control of operational procedures and automating the execution of operational tasks. It also reports the performance of the IT infrastructure. The following list provides an overview of the most common elements of operations architecture:
