Projectplace is a collaborative work management software from Planview that offers project management software and work collaboration solutions to help bring teams together and get work done. Projectplace integrates features such as task manager apps, Kanban boards, and Gantt chart software to help teams set direction, communicate, execute tasks, track progress, and ultimately achieve their goals, no matter where they work. It is a uniquely flexible collaborative work management tool, built for teams of any size or complexity. Originally, Projectplace was founded in September 1998 in Stockholm, Sweden, from the Swedish application service provider, Projectplace International AB. It was one of the first hosted Web applications available on a pay-per-use basis.[1]

Acquisition by Planview

On August 13, 2014, Planview, an American project management software developing company based in Austin, Texas, announced the acquisition of Projectplace, adding a work collaboration solution to Planview's work and resource management solutions.

Projectplace modules include team conversations, document archives, issue management, planning and tracking, meeting management, project portal, and contacts. These project management tools enable traditional and accidental project managers to achieve their goals by improving their ability to plan and execute work with their teams and track progress in real time.

The service is available in several languages: Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish and Danish.

Collaborative Work Management

Enterprise-wide collaboration software is critical in today’s work environment, where employees often work from different locations around the world, yet must still share information with colleagues across tools such as email, file-sharing services, and social media. Collaboration tools combine features of social networking software with the task and organizational features of project management software, enabling organizations to stay organized and effectively achieve their goals.

According to TrustRadius, a key value proposition of Projectplace is to be one tool designed to work together, rather than a collection of point solutions. Streamlining project management is accomplished through task management, workflow automation, and team collaboration. This involves elements such as mobile access, timesheet tracking, scheduling, email integration, document management, agile and waterfall methodology, Gantt charts, and task and resource management. Kanban Boards

Kanban Boards

The Kanban board is a visual representation of the work stream. Each work task is represented in a card that can be assigned to individuals who may then drag and drop the card between customizable columns, like planned, working on, and done columns. The transparency and visual appeal of this approach boost engagement and motivation within project teams, making follow-up of deliverables easier and more accurate.

Gantt Chart

The Gantt chart breaks down project goals and deliverables into a hierarchy of activities, ensuring every action is directly related to the project goals. This improves project efficiency, but also makes it easier to track the progress of project deliverables.

Agile

Agile management also offers a simple framework promoting communication and reflection on past work among team members.

Accidental Project Manager

Accidental project managers are those who find themselves in charge of one or more projects, but they don't carry a formal project management title. This role is becoming more common, as projects have become the default form of work. Out of 200 people surveyed in North America, two out of three may not be certified in project management; yet, 32 percent still take on a project management role.[1] Workload, communication, and outdated collaboration tools hinder the ability of these accidental managers to effectively meet deadlines and budgets. In order to handle a greater workload, these workers have to find smarter ways of working together, which is the challenge Projectplace aims to solve.
