Charles "Chazz" Miller, was born June 14, 1963 in Detroit, Michigan. He is the main street art mural artist behind the Motor City Blight Busters founder of The Artist Village, in the heart of Old Redford "The Artist Village is a program of Motor City Blight Busters, a nonprofit seeking to stabilize and revitalize Detroit communities."[1]

“Chazz founded Public Art Workz to stimulate community growth, provide a creative outlet for children and instill an appreciation of the arts. PAWZ offers enrichment programs in art and technology to helps to drive academic achievement."[2][3]

Biography

Chazz studied painting at the Columbus College of Art and Design (1981-1986). He also studied Advertizing. Chazz taught for the College for creative studies. "My artwork takes a satirical view of social, political and cultural issues. In my work, I deconstruct the psychology of subliminal suggestion, fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and religion, that make up our culture." Having explored a diverse range of subjects such as the civil rights movement, World Cup Soccer, Blues and world history. Miller's work represents 50 years of visual experience, creating and developing those experiences into my life's work, has been shear joy and pain. The focus of art is to project my inner vision into the world, in the form of Public Art in form of large outdoor murals.

Working closely with the community to create outdoor galleries that raise social and environmental aesthetic that touches the deepest psychic and personal experiences, of the community. My goal is to enable those involved to recognized the importance of creating positive human experiences, while creating art. He is also the mastermind behind and partner of the Detroit's Artist Village.

Chazz Miller, the latter being the founder of Public Art Workz and the Artist Village (he runs both from the city's distraught west side neighborhood of Brightmoor), create uplifting murals, often with the help of the community. Public art is heavily woven into the cultural fabric. [4][5]

In 2010 Chazz Miller , a Detroit artist, and several volunteers painted plywood cutouts of butterflies as part of the "Papillion Effect ("Papillon" is French for butterfly"), an anti-blight campaign. Miller added several butterflies to the nature trail at Howell Park.[6]

"The city recently commissioned PAWZ to create a large installation in the Brightmoor neighborhood. In keeping with his commitment to education, Miller chose seven kids to help him with the project. The “Creative Class of 2010” should be rolling out the first phase of the project in 2010 and the second in the spring of 2011.

The paradigm shift created by the Heidelberg Project and PAWZ is a testament to the positive impact the projects have had on the city."[7]

Artwork

Artist Chazz Miller of Public Art Workz provides the restorative touch of public artwork — one that also functions as a welcome brigade. Along with Miller’s murals of President Barack Obama and picturesque scenes of activism painted on nearby abandoned buildings.

DETROIT LIVES! in conjunction with Public Art Workz and Motor City Blight Busters. The project aims to paint uplifting and casually inspiring message-based murals throughout the city of Detroit. Public art as positive propaganda. [8]

The Artist Village is a place to nurture the art and youth and provide a place in the community for artistic expression including, painting poetry, and hip hop so the youth can have a place to a creative outlet for self expression, for Chazz Art is a lifestyle and a moral duty and cause for the revitalization of the community and a place to nurture the talent.[9]
