Marcus Hutchins, also known online as MalwareTech, is a British computer security researcher known for temporarily stopping the WannaCry ransomware attack.[1][2] He is employed by cybersecurity firm Kryptos Logic.[3][4]

On 2 August 2017, Hutchins was arrested in the United States for allegedly creating a banking malware known as Kronos. He denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him on 4 August 2017.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

Peter Heaton-Jones, the MP for North Devon, asked the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to provide consular assistance to Hutchins.[14]
