Metro (also known as metro.co.uk) is an online newspaper news, sport and entertainment website published from the UK by DMG Media, part of Associated Newspapers Ltd.
In April 2017 Metro had over 1.6 million daily readers, nearly twice the circulation of Metro newspaper in London.[2]
Metro was created in 2010 as the online counterpart of Metro newspaper, the free paper distributed on public transport services in cities across the UK - and, according to monthly NRS figures in 2017, the UK's most-read newspaper.[3] In 2015, the Metro website became independent of the newspaper: although they belong to the same parent company and are based in the same offices, they are now produced by separate editorial teams.
Content
Metro serves a diverse range of world and UK news, sport, showbiz and celebrity articles and video generally aimed at a young urban audience.
Metro reaches much of its audience through social sharing. In June 2017 its Facebook page had 1,638,356 followers in June 2017, while its Twitter account was followed by 266,000 people.
