APM is the largest independent professional body of its kind in Europe. It has over 14,500 individual and 350 corporate members throughout the UK and abroad. Its aim is to develop and promote project management across all sectors of industry and beyond.

Its mission statement is: "To develop and promote the professional disciplines of project and programme management for the public benefit"

At the heart of APM is the APM Body of Knowledge; fifty-two knowledge areas required to manage any successful project. We promote the use of the APM Body of Knowledge through qualifications, accredited training, research, publications and events.

APM's members are skilled and experienced professionals recognised in the UK and throughout the world via International Project Management Association (IPMA); APM is the UK member of the IPMA (see IPMA).

Its headquarters are in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, with thirteen regional branches throughout the UK and one in Hong Kong.

Its strategy is based around five key areas:

- International: Promoting and protecting the interests and standards of APM and its members at home and abroad.

- Professional Development: Developing and maintaining an internationally recognised structure of qualifications relevant to cross-sector practice.

- Membership: Attracting and retaining members through a growing range of value-for-money services and products.

- Knowledge: Becoming the recognised source for the development and dissemination of knowledge for project and programme management.

- Governance & Administration: Providing an efficient, cost-effective, transparent core for APM to deliver the plans, services and products to members, potential members and society as a whole.
