Graceful exit problem

Cosmological Inflation is a brief period (in Big Bang model) of the primordial universe, during which the universe expands with an accelerating rate. However, after inflation, being dominated by either radiation or matter, universe expands with decelerating rate. Thus inflation could not exist for an elongated period. To overcome this problem, every proposed model of inflation should provide a condition of smooth exit of the inflation to normal Friedman-Robertson-Walker universe , so that the universe is looked remotely similar to ours, and such a problem is called as graceful exit problem.[1]

Even in the case of ‘old inflation’, in Alan Guth's first paper[2] proposing inflation, has some serious issues (some problems about reheating) to end and thus suffered graceful exit problem. In 1982 joint collaboration of Paul Steinhardt and Andreas Albrecht and independent effort of another cosmologist - Andrei Linde solved this problem.[3]
