Based on the short film by the Amell cousins and Chan and Paré. The movie was funded entirely through crowdfunding website, Indiegogo, raising approximately $1,720,151. Robbie Amell announced via Facebook that filming will begin in June, 2017. XYZ Films will also distribute the movie. [1]

Premise

Code 8 is based in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability. Instead of being billionaire superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarised.

Cast

Production

In March, 2016, Stephen & Robbie Amell released a short film of the same name, starring both Robbie, Sung Kang, Aaron Abrams, and Chad Donella. The short was released in hopes of crowdfunding a feature length film. By the end of the campaign, which was featured on Indiegogo, over $1.7 million was raised, which was $1.5 million more than originally planned. Perks for donating included signed postcards, clothes, photos & posters, extra roles, invitations to premieres, credited as producers, and the most expensive perk of all, $50,000 to be an associate producer on the film, and work directly with the production team, as well as invitations to all premieres and non limited perks. The perk was successfully purchased. [2]

For the feature, Jeff Chan will return to direct, and also co-write with Chris Paré. Both Amell's, Kang and Abrams will return to star. As of the 4th of May, 2017, no other castings have been announced. On the 1st of May, 2017, Robbie Amell announced via Facebook that filming for Code 8 will begin in June 2017. The film is expected to be released in 2018, and will be distributed by XYZ Films, who purchased the rights. [3]
