Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is a place where anyone can create and edit* without any advertisements.
Wikia is also a free Wiki hosting service. However, there are ads all over it.
Both of the above were founded by Jimmy Wales, but that does not mean that they are affiliated. Some things acceptable on Wikipedia are not accepted on Wikia, and vice versa. Here are the differences between Wikipedia and Wikia.
Wikipedia is a place where advertisements do not belong. Spamming with external links is not only a violation of Wikipedia:NOTDIRECTORY, but it is also a violation of WP:NOTSOAP. Wikipedia articles must also be notable, or they may be tagged with A7. They must have citations, and they must be verifiable. Wikia, on the other hand, allows advertisements and content written on anything and everything. They are not affiliated with each other, other than that they are both by Jimmy Wales, and they have separate policies.
