Seavus Project Viewer is a viewer for Microsoft Project files. It reads the native .mpp [3] file format created in any Microsoft Project versions. As a project management software, it is designed to assist users (team members, team leads, project stakeholder and other project participant) to review their project assignments, print the project information and follow the overall project status. The application software shows critical path schedules and critical chain which are visualized in a Gantt chart. As of March 2017, Seavus Project Viewer has approximately 6,200,000 users, including clients such as Marks & Spencer, European Central Bank, SAP AG, BMW, Chevron Corporation, Airbus, Volvo, MetLife, Cisco Systems, Tesla, and many others.

Features

When the project manager saves the project in an .mpp file, the formatting information is stored along with the project information in the same file. Seavus Project Viewer reads this information when opening .mpp files, showing the same formatting and visual styles as in Microsoft Project.[4]

Seavus Project Viewer[5] is available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X,[6] via the web with an online version, on the mobile iOS,[7] Windows Phone and Android platforms and as well with applications for the Apple Watch.[8]

Users can open Microsoft Project files hosted on the following cloud storages:

File format

Seavus Project Viewer reads .mpp file format, which is the native file format for Microsoft Project. The supported versions of the .mpp file format are:

  • Microsoft Project 2016
  • Microsoft Project 2013
  • Microsoft Project 2010
  • Microsoft Project 2007
  • Microsoft Project 2003

Task update

Seavus Project Viewer is a viewer for Microsoft Project files that provides a collaborative environment for project teams, without server installation. With the Task update functionality, teams can easily introduce a collaborative project environment, while the project manager will have up-to-date information about the current status of the project tasks and be able to track if all assignments in the project plan are finished on time. Some of the functions are:

  • Get real-time project status;
  • Continually evaluate teams′ performance;
  • Build knowledge for future projects;
  • Simplify project collaboration;
  • Save time and avoid unnecessary communication between team members and the Project Manager.

Graphical reports

Visual reports and dashboards or graphical reports allow team leads and project participants to view the health of the project plan. Users can view the status of the whole project, the work completion status, resources allocation status, and project and resources costs overview. The graphical reports can be customized according to the users′ preference, and monitor how a certain parameter changes throughout the lifespan of the project.

The following categories and reports are supported in Seavus Project Viewer 15[9] for Windows and Seavus Project Viewer 3.2 for Mac(8), allowing users to view the health of the project plan, as in Microsoft Project 2013:

  • Dashboard category
    • Cost Overview
    • Project Overview
    • Upcoming Task
    • Work Overview
  • Resources category
    • Resource Overview
  • Cost category
    • Cost Overruns
    • Resource Cost Overview
    • Task Cost Overview

Integration with cloud storage services

Seavus Project Viewer is fully integrated with most cloud storage providers. This allow users to open, view, and print Project Plans and Master Project Plans on a shared location, and every member to have access to the updated Microsoft Project plan. The complete SharePoint Integration enables users to manage all project plans directly from SharePoint hosted in-house, or to collaborate with team members using the Microsoft SharePoint in the cloud (SharePoint Online) included in Office 365 suite as well as OneDrive.

Master projects, subprojects and external tasks

When opening a master project plan in Seavus Project Viewer, all of its inserted subprojects are loaded in the same time. Tasks from different subprojects can be linked together, forming a predecessor/successor dependency. When a user opens one of the subprojects in Seavus Project Viewer, all of the predecessor tasks from other subprojects will be shown next to the opened local tasks in the project. They appear with different style and font in the different task views, so they can be visually distinguished from the local tasks. By having the external tasks shown in the views, Seavus Project Viewer is able to draw the links between them and the local task, providing a more realistic view over the whole set of tasks and their dependencies.

Skype for Business integration

The latest release Seavus Project Viewer is fully integrated with Skype for Business allowing companies to create a unique working experience and making it a central application from which all meetings, and brainstorming are initiated. This combination makes communication and collaboration within the company more secure, as messages do not leave the corporate intranet. Using this feature, companies encounter boosted productivity and knowledge sharing among geographically spread teams, thus making the transfer of knowledge across company much easier.
