April is Dalit History Month - Come edit Wikipedia with us!

Dalit knowledge and history is too often marginalized or missing from narratives of South Asian history and its diaspora.[1] Please join us in improving Wikipedia's coverage of Dalit people, events and issues, to share the contributions to history from Dalits around the world!

Edit-a-thons are being organized in India and the United States for Dalit History Month 2017 by Equality Labs with support from Whose Knowledge?. Our goal is to create or improve 60 articles during April and May.

See below for some events where you can join others to edit Wikipedia in-person. You're also welcome to work on improving Dalit content online anytime :)

Berkeley, USA - April 15

  • When: Saturday, April 15, 2017, 12pm-4pm
  • Where: UC Berkeley School of Information. 202 South Hall, Berkeley California, USA.
  • Who: Anyone interested in improving Wikipedia articles related to Dalit history. Dalits, women, LGBTQI folks, and allies are all welcome to come and learn more about Dalit history and how to edit Wikipedia. Support will be on hand to help you learn during the events.
  • How: Let us know you're interested by adding your name to the participant's list below, or just drop in at the event. At Dalit History Month events, we'll ask you to register your Wikipedia account so we can keep track of how much amazing Dalit history content everyone creates! (more details on this coming soon!)
  • Bring: Yourself and a laptop, if you have one -- if not, come anyway! If you have any reference materials (books, articles, etc) on Dalit topics that may be helpful for adding content to Wikipedia, bring those too. We'll supply the snacks and drinks!
  • Hashtags: #DalitHistoryMonth
