The System Security Services Daemon (SSSD) is a software package developed for the Linux Operating System that provides a set of daemons to manage access to remote directories and authentication mechanisms. The beginnings of SSSD lie in an open source project named FreeIPA (Identity, Policy and Audit)[1]. The purpose of SSSD is to simplify system administration respecting user access involving multiple distinct hosts[2].
