Request on 13:48:57, 25 August 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Lordfarquaad
- Lordfarquaad (talk · contribs) (TB)
I uploaded an image to Wikimedia Commons that I own (I took the photo of the subject) and would like to put in the public domain. I thought I did that when I uploaded it (put it under the right license) but then I added it to an AfC I'm working on, it was rejected because the reviewer said the image was a copyright violation. The image is here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Schwindt-Daniel1.jpg
Can you let me know what I'm doing wrong to make it still under copyright? It does appear elsewhere online, but under my permission.
Lordfarquaad (talk) 13:48, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Lordfarquaad I have restored the infobox with the image as I don't see any copyright problem. Perhaps David.moreno72 can help clarify the issue. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 14:38, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

16:35:53, 25 August 2016 review of submission by Mocana
I appreciate the feedback and time into reviewing this article for approval, but do feel that with more specifics. I did take to heart the feedback initially that this article came off too promotional and through extensive research I've been able to build out an article that I feel is far less biased in tone (or coming across as a promotion) and focuses much better on the accomplishments and leadership roles that Toby Gannett has.
Are there specific sections of concern that automatically disqualify this article?
Additionally for a photo, I can try to find another source but since this individually probably uploaded their own Headshot to LinkedIn shouldn't he have the original copyright, not LinkedIn?
Any detailed and specific help from the community would be much much appreciated!
- Hello Mocana. I am afraid there are a number of problems with this draft:
- Although you have made some progress, it is still highly promotional. This is an encyclopaedia, not a resume. You should be reporting the plain facts of Gannett's life and their lasting, historical significance (if any) as discussed in reliable sources – not his "accomplishments and leadership roles". Most egregiously, a large part of the article is devoted to his ancestry, which is totally irrelevant and serves only to aggrandise his "pedigree".
- As noted by the last reviewer, File:Thomas “Toby” Brattle Gannett.jpg is probably a copyright violation. The copyright to the photo belongs to the photographer, not Gannett or LinkedIn, so unless you took it, you have no right to claim it as your "own work" and release it into the public domain (as you asserted when you uploaded it).
- Most of all, you have given no credible indication that Gannett is notable. Wikipedia only publishes biographies of notable people, that is, people are part of the "enduring historical record in his or her specific field", which for our purposes means that they have already received significant coverage in multiple, independent, reliable sources. You have only included one such reference in your draft ([1]), which is not nearly enough to establish notability. I have done some quick research and cannot find any indication that Gannett is any more noteworthy than the average businessman, which means he probably is not a suitable subject for a Wikipedia article.
- Sorry to be discouraging—I may be wrong, and you can continue to work on the draft if you wish—but many hundreds of articles like this are rejected for inclusion every day. Joe Roe (talk) 20:51, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
18:05:58, 25 August 2016 review of submission by Ysimpson
I am having a difficult time getting the page YSimpson/sandbox approved for publication on Wikipedia. This is the third time the page has bee deleted. I have been following the guidelines for a political page for a living person and trying to use language not to promote but to inform people about who she is and what she has been doing. I know another draft of the page is pending, I think, for consideration, but I am hoping to find out what needs to be done to get the page approved and published. Please help. Thanks1 Ysimpson (talk) 18:05, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
- Your username is Ysimpson and you are writing about Yvette Simpson – are you writing an article about yourself? Doing so is strongly discouraged under Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy. We are an encyclopaedia, not a social networking service. Joe Roe (talk) 09:54, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

I have spent the last couple hours trying to put in proper citations and references. I would like it if someone familiar with wikipedia guidelines could take another look and offer me helpful constructive objectives so that I may complete this article, for this notable Writer, Screenwriter, and Business owner. Thank you very much.
Hocmyfitegre (talk) 19:42, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hello Hocmyfitegre. Can you clarify what article you are talking about? You have created two drafts on Andrew Delaplaine: Draft:Andrew Delaplaine and Draft:Andrew Delaplaine (1). But more recently you bypassed the Articles for Creation process altogether and created Andrew Delaplaine directly. The latter is fully published, so in that sense it is already as "complete" as any Wikipedia article can be (although it may very well be deleted since Delaplaine appears to be of dubious notability). 20:45:07, 25 August 2016 review of submission by Tyvoss
Greetings,
This is the second re-review that I have requested. I have added many sources of notability and cited them since the last review. When I go into live chat to discuss it with the reviewer, I am told that he still isn't sure if it's actually a notable organization in a notable industry. I believe that I have gone above and beyond showing the impact of EASA in the industry that they serve and their over 2,000 member companies (and the thousands of employees under those companies that are all members).
I feel like I could add 50 sources and it would still get declined by the reviewer. As much as I appreciate any and all guidance, getting answers like "You should not resubmit" and "Focus on the best" are not helpful in any way.
I am requesting a re-review by the help desk or, at the very least, clarification on what it takes to define "notability", because I believe I have established that.
Thank you,
Sorttou (talk) 20:45, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
- Two of the declines have been for tone reasons primarily rather than notability reasons. The draft reads as though its primary purpose is to advertise the association to companies in the industry rather than to provide the public with information about a notable organization. may i know the reason for article declination
122.165.95.111 (talk) 05:17, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
- The reason is included in the box at the top of the draft, and in the message the reviewer left on your talk page:
- Neologisms are not considered suitable for Wikipedia unless they receive substantial use and press coverage; this requires strong evidence in independent, reliable, published sources. Links to sites specifically intended to promote the neologism itself do not establish its notability.

Hello there,
I tried submitting this draft for the German manager Utz classen: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Utz_Claassen&venotify=created
I got feedback that it does not show sufficient notability.
I am surprised the draft was rejected. Many companies that Mr Classen was the CEO of have their own lengthy wikipedia articles. He was CEO of EnBW, the third largest gas provider in Germany from 2003 until 2007, EnBW. He was also the ceo of Sartorius AG, Solar Millennium and supervisory board member of AWD. He was also president of RCD Mallorca and he's been honored as the "most innovative entrepreneur international 2016" by Günther Oettinger. There is significant media coverage about him and he has a lengthy profile on Bloomberg. I am really wondering what more is needed?
I would like to point out that the CEO of Adidas has its own wikipedia article and the company makes 4 billion less revenue compared to EnBW. In addition, Utz Claassen has completed many other mandates on top.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Hainer
Hence, I plan on resubmitting this draft a third time now.
--Dosenbier1990 (talk) 11:18, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Doesnbier1990. You are welcome to resubmit the article but please take note of what the previous reviews have said before you do so. Regardless of your personal assessment of Classen's achievements, or the inclusion or otherwise of other businesspeople, your draft must be shown to satisfy the golden rule – "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic". Hello,
I have attempted to follow the guidelines to get my submission into the following article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirulina_(dietary_supplement)
under the research section accepted. However, it keeps on getting rejected and it's not clear why. I am new to this and need guidance so I can submit this article.
Thanks you much.
- Your sandbox draft was declined as being about Spirulina (dietary supplement), with the suggestion that any information be added there. You then made one effort to add a large amount of poorly sourced information to Spirulina (dietary supplement), which was reverted as not being adequately sourced. The next step is to discuss on the article talk page, but that is no guarantee that your submission will be accepted, because we have high quality standards for dietary and medical claims. - Staffnotewriter (talk · contribs) (TB)
I have been trying to get an article approved. I used web resources that include interviews about the person my article is about. What better source is there other than an interview? Where the words are spoken in first person and the facts are coming straight from the horses mouth?
I don't understand why the decline on the article.
Staffnotewriter (talk) 04:02, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hey Staffnotewriter. An encyclopedia only properly containing articles on topics of knowledge. Wikipedia employs the concept of notability to avoid indiscriminate inclusion of topics by attempting to ensure that the subjects of articles are "worthy of notice" – by only including articles on topics that the world has taken note of by substantively treating them in reliable sources unconnected with the topic. Notability is the predominant content inclusion standard, though it works hand in glove with verifiability. The general notability standard thus presumes that topics are notable if they have "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". primary sources (like interviews) may be useful to verify certain facts, but they must be used with caution and do nothing to establish notability. That is the reason for the decline and what you need to demonstrate. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:23, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
06:59:32, 29 August 2016 review of submission by Butterwb61
- Butterwb61 (talk · contribs) (TB)
The reviewer's response stated, "...there's simply nothing actually establishing both independent notability and substance." This is demonstrably false. The article includes citations by seven different professionally edited publications, five of which have existed for at least four decades each.
In fact, there are many similar companies with Wikipedia pages that have far fewer, if any, independent citations. Here are 10:
A&R Cambridge Ltd. (0 independent citations) Audio Alchemy (3 independent citations) Audio Research (0 independent citations) Ayre Acoustics (2 independent citations) Boulder Amplifiers (2 independent citations) Goldmund (0 independent citations) Krell Industries (1 independent citation) Musical Fidelity (3 independent citations, none live) Pass Labs (0 independent citations) Rotel (0 independent citations)
Thank you for reconsidering.
- See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The fact that we have other articles that are inadequately sourced is not a reason to accept another article that is inadequately sourced. The reviewer is of the opinion that the 7 references are not in sufficient depth to establish notability or not independent. I suggest that you discuss with the reviewer. By the way, do you have a connection with the subject company? Robert McClenon (talk) 19:52, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

First, the reviewer was way too involved and emotional (he even attacked me, apparently confused, accusing me of misrepresenting ... when that was obviously not true).
Then, after this long discussion, with his accusation, he decides he is the one to review (and decline) the page?
This leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Why should I try to contribute if people act like this?
See our discussion.
On the talk page of that article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft_talk:Temtchine
And on his talk page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:David.moreno72#Hi
Can someone who is not involved, and is not a buddy of his who chats on his talk page, please take an honest third party look? That would be a step forward.
This is not a very good way to get people to believe the goal is working together.
- Welcome, 2604:2000:E016:A700:354B:B296:1058:7227. You are correct that a disambiguation page may include a red link, so long as an article also includes that red link. You are also correct that Dummy (film) and Villalobos Brothers link to Richard Temtchine. So it's okay for a disambiguation page to include a link to Richard Temtchine.
- However, Temtchine is not, and should not be, a disambiguation page. Chloe Temtchine, Richard Temtchine, and Sybil Temtchine require no disambiguation. A disambiguation page would be in order if the entries were something like: Richard Temtchine, Richard Temtchine (chemist), Richard Temtchine (politician), Rich Temtchine, Dick Temtchine. Instead Temtchine is a set index article, which is explicitly not a disambiguation page, so rules for red links on disambiguation pages don't apply to it. Entries must follow list inclusion criteria. Generally that means entries must have pre-existing articles, although some editors will accept a red link so long as it is backed up by inline citations to three in-depth, independent, reliable sources. Such sources prove that the entry is notable even if it doesn't have a Wikipedia article yet. --Worldbruce (talk) 15:16, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks World.
First - can you please talk to the editor who kept on insisting that what you said is not true? About red links in such pages. That would be very helpful. Because otherwise he will be treating other people this way. Read his talk page for our discussion.
Second - if you take the guy's first name, Richard, there is a page called Richard with lots of people named Richard. Who have different last names.
Are you saying those pages are ok. They just have to be called a different name? Like here, Temtchine? And not called a disambiguation page? They are all over wikipedia.
Third, I did give sources for the red links. But that is not acceptable on those pages I was told. The sources were [2][3][4]</ref> But that same editor who said a red link is not ok on a disambiguation page, and who deleted everything only because he misunderstood that- which was only about one name on the list, also deleted all the footnotes. Leaving nothing. What he did was not nice and did not seem to be him trying to work together with me.2604:2000:E016:A700:858A:BC30:5139:68A8 (talk) 03:53, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi, the above draft article was started and then abandoned in 2013 by a long-since departed editor – I've taken it upon myself to update it and add reliable sources, and I believe it is now in a position to be reviewed and moved to mainspace if accepted. I've never done this before, so is there anything else I need to do? I would also add that I believe that the article title should be changed: "Festival Estéreo Picnic" is the official name in Spanish, so it should be anglicised to "Estéreo Picnic Festival" or simply "Estéreo Picnic", its common name. Thanks.
Richard3120 (talk) 16:28, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Richard3120: You can move it from Draft:Festival Estéreo Picnic to Draft:Estéreo Picnic or whatever name you think best fits with policy Wikipedia:Article titles. To submit the draft for review, add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the draft. There's a considerable backlog, so it could be several weeks before someone reviews it. --Worldbruce (talk) 18:46, 30 August 2016 (UTC)- Thanks, Worldbruce – the backlog isn't an issue because it'll be a couple of months before the press even start talking about the 2017 festival, so the article isn't going to change much in the meantime... I can make alterations at leisure to it. Richard3120 (talk) 22:15, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
- Edit: hang on, I've just found that another editor has independently recently created Estereo Picnic Festival (no WikiProject tags, so it wasn't easy to find). So what I'll do is copy my changes across to that article as it is already in mainspace, and then put the draft up for deletion. Thanks for your help, anyway.
