Universal Protection Service is the largest[citation needed] private security company in the United States.

History

Universal Protection Service was founded in 1965.[1] It was started out as a janitorial company, expanding into security by 1969.

In 2015, it acquired Guardsmark, thus becoming the largest privately owned security contractor in the US.[1][2] Guardsmark's founder, Ira A. Lipman, joined UPS's board as vice chairman.[1]

It is a subsidiary of Universal Services of America, which is owned by Warburg Pincus and Partners Group.[1]
