I've made one small change: it would seem that the piece had become an Octet already by the time of the Donaueschingen performance in October 1973. I've just come across a recording of that performance online at:

It's preceded by an interview with Boulez, who speaks of revising it between the New York and Donaueschingen performances. The ensemble is made up of eight BBC Symphony Orchestra principals:
David Butt, flute; Colin Bradbury, clarinet; John Wilbraham, trumpet; Béla Dékany, violin; John Coulling, viola; Alan Dalziel, cello; Sidonie Goossens, harp; James Holland, vibraphone.
It's a really interesting recording in quite good sound. Pre-echoes of Repons, as well as of the ultimate version of explosante.
