Clarification?

"... followed by ligation of complementary double stranded adaptors to the ends of the restriction fragments."

I don't understand this phrase. Similarly "... ligation of restriction half-site specific adaptors to all restriction fragments.". Presumably this is the same thing?

"A subset of the restriction fragments are then amplified using two primers complementary to the adaptor and restriction site fragments."

Does this mean that the primers span the end of the fragment and the adaptor?
OK, I think I got it now... I have tried to reword the article to make this clearer, but I may have screwed it up a bit in the process... --Dan|(talk) 13:22, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Amplified fragment length polymorphism → AFLP — AFLP has never been an acronym and the title of this page suggests it is. See the Discussion of the original Vos et al. 1995 paper where it they state explicitly that it is not an acronym. Furthermore, the use of it as an acronym is misleading because it suggests that the method results in length polymorphisms, which it does not.   • Oppose – Google scholar search finds thousands of papers that include the string "Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP)", and only one with the words "AFLP is not an acronym". Whatever the original intention of the authors, the acronym clearly stands for the words in most reliable sources. Dicklyon (talk) 04:28, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – This article's purpose should be to present accurate information and not perpetuate confusion. As stated above, not only is AFLP NOT an acronym, pretending that it stands for "...Length Polymorphisms" is particularly misleading.
