Order of mention?

I won't claim that PODC is not among the top venues for research in distributed computing, but I find footnotes 8, 9, and 10 in this article to be peculiar. Why does it matter that Lynch happens to mention PODC before a few other conferences? I doubt very much that that text is intended to suggest that "PODC > FOCS > STOCS > WDAG".
