XRI eXtensible Resource Identifier

A URI-compatible scheme and resolution protocol for abstract identifiers used to identify and share resources across domains and application.

Abstract Identifiers are those that are location-, application-, and transport-independent, because of this they can be shared across any number of domains and directories. The same XRI could be used to get in touch with a person via any number of forms be it a phone number, e-mail address, instant message.

i-name is the 'human friendly' name for an XRI.
