Overhead bit

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 186.1.231.109 (talk) at 13:38, 12 February 2016 (Undid previous change which had removed "non", going back to "nondata bits". They are nondata in the sense that they're not part of the original data to be transmitted. In a broader sense, all bits are data, but that would just be redundant.). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

In data transmission and telecommunication, overhead bits are nondata bits necessary for transmission (usually as part of headers, checksums, and such). Such bits are not counted as part of the goodput.
