From First to Last (commonly abbreviated as FFTL) is an American post-hardcore band based in Los Angeles, California. They were signed to Epitaph Records and have released an EP and two full-length albums. The band signed to Capitol Records in March 2006, but Epitaph Records still control press and promo activities until the band release their first Capitol Records release.
History
From First to Last originally started as a high school pop-punk band called First Too Last, fronted by current guitarist Matt Good. Later on, Travis Richter was added as a second guitarist. By the time they came to recording their first EP Aesthetic, Phillip Reardon (vocals), and Joey Brandon (bass) joined the group.
Reardon left the band citing musical differences right before the recording of Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count. The band decided they needed someone who could lead the band, since Reardon was mainly scream and Good had to focus on guitar; so after Reardon's departure, Sonny Moore joined the group. He was found by the band on the networking site Myspace and was asked to audition. He originally had come it to try for a spot on bass, but the band realized Moore was a good singer and they quickly asked him to front the band. Brandon was replaced by bassist Jon Weisberg, and with this lineup, the band recorded Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count.
In late 2005, Weisberg left the band. The band has employed ex-Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland until they find a full-time bassist. Also, Alicia Simmons, who is engaged to My Chemical Romance bass player Mikey Way, played bass for the band on their Dead by Dawn 2 Tour.
In March 2006, From First To Last released "Heroine". Shortly after, they signed to major label Capitol.
Currently, the band was scheduled to play the 2006 Vans Warped Tour, but were forced to drop out due to surgery removal of an infected lymph node in singer Sonny Moore's throat. The band have discussed doing a fall/winter club tour with Wes Borland's band Black Light Burns, on which Borland will also play bass with the band.
In early August of 2006 the band announced they will be touring the United States in the fall with bands Every Time I Die, Atreyu and Chiodos. The news was well received by fans as an assurance of not only the return of From First to Last to the stage, but the full voice recovery of singer Sonny Moore from his surgery during the summer.
Trivia
The title of From First to Last's first album, Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count, was actually a line in the popular film Heathers, When a character in the movie, Veronica (Winona Ryder), is writing in her diary, she writes "Dear diary, my teen angst bullshit has a body count".
