A term that applies to the investigation and potential of open source and the collaborative nature of the internet to create physical objects. The donated time and skill of designers and other professionals (enable through a collaborative web-environment) to apply their skills to projects for the common good, where funding or corporate interest is lacking. To engage the designer/professional to work towards the needs of non-profit organizations.
