Help:What links here/demo rdcheck

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Cpiral (talk | contribs) at 08:43, 6 December 2015 (prep to create redirects to sections of Help:WLH). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

When using What links here from Help:What links here, and selecting Show redirects only, it generates a report from rdcheck.py with many features.

The Help:What links here#Redirects section says to hide links and hide transclusions in order to show redirects only. Does that list of redirects show double redirects? Help:What links here does.

This subpage is an attempt to generate all interesting content on the rdcheck report. That way its features can be shown and documented at Help:What links here#Redirects.

The Show redirects only that is rdcheck.py shows redirects whose purpose is to link to a section.[1]

The WLH procedure to "show redirects only" hides links. Rdcheck shows only redirects. How do we then list navigable links to content of a section?[2] The most efficient way is to go to rdcheck, click on each of the redirects to the section of interest, and run WLH on them.

This subpage demo's that.[3]

Rdcheck.py is especially notable for reporting redirects to sections. All [[..]] sections should show up there, with the stated exception of See also, just to see, and from two subpages, just to see:

Double redirects

Help:What links here/double rdcheck is a redirect to WP:WRH. Therefore it is a double redirect (from a subpage).

It also links to even numbered sections, so rdcheck should report yet another redirect linking to a section. Which title will it be? WRH? double rdcheck? WLH/double rdcheck? Let's see.

Notes and references

  1. ^ This is part of a valiant effort to enable changing a section heading without breaking a link to the name, and instead asking every editor wants to link to a section to link to a single redirect page instead.
  2. ^ This important question is the ultimate answer to the many possible points of failure of the proceeding, at some point, to direct editors who would link to a section to check the wikitext for the recommended redirect title.
  3. ^ See {{linksto}} to find all the wikilinks to a section name: heading, anchor, or id. That plus rdcheck can find all links to a section.
