New protection feature
I recently read on WP:AN about the new protection feature for protecting redlinks without using WP:SALT, and instead, just using the regular protection ability. Does anyone else think that should be included here? Acalamari 18:35, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, that would be helpful, you may want to include MediaWiki:Titleblacklist also and how to use it. Oysterguitarist 23:30, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- Its now depricated. Same protection procedure as a blue linked article.--Hu12 (talk) 20:43, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Note: it was created at Wikipedia:new admin/Protecting deleted pages. Acalamari 20:40, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
New section
Added Wikipedia:New_admin_school/Protecting#Special_pages. Although New admins most likely won't act as quickly on these types of pages as the veterans, some guidence may be helpful. Correct or modify as needed. thanks--Hu12 (talk) 20:39, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Outdated instructions
The instructions here seem to be from a previous version of the tools. They say to choose block new and unregistered users or block all non-admin users. Actually the menu actually now says Allow all users, Allow only autoconfirmed users, etc. Shall I rewrite the parts where I feel confident what needs to be corrected? --MelanieN (talk) 17:16, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- I've had this in the back of my mind since I became an admin; going through here was unclear because so many of the interfaces have changed since the new admin school pages were last updated, so feel free to go ahead and I'll help where I can if I have the time. - OK, I changed the parts where the instructions are now different. I have a question about the part that follows, where it says to add a template to the top of the protected page announcing that it is protected. My observation is that most admins don't do that. Should we leave that in the instructions anyhow? It would probably take some kind of RfC to remove it. --MelanieN (talk) 17:48, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- I was under the impression that most admins do, I do anyway! Best left in even if not everyone does it. The protection policy does state that "Protected pages are normally marked" too. Sam Walton (talk) 18:45, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

templates for commenting at WP:RFPP
I actually came here because I was looking for a list of the templates that admins use in responding to requests for protection - things like {{RFPP|d}} and {{RFPP|semi|one week}}. Is there such a list anywhere? --MelanieN (talk) 17:25, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- @MelanieN: When you edit RFPP there is a collapsed table in the edit notice titled 'RFPP administrator notation templates' where you can find them all. Alternatively, at Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection/Administrator_instructions :) Sam Walton (talk) 17:28, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks! --MelanieN (talk) 17:45, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
