Wikipedia:Historical archive/New user log
Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! If you're new to our community, drop us a note here and tell us a little bit about yourself. Most important, we would like to know about your interests (for which we have a separate page), your areas of knowledge, and the sorts of things you'd like to work on here at Wikipedia. That makes it easier for us to help you start editing. We'd also appreciate it if you told us how you found out about Wikipedia.
- To add yourself to the list:
- post a comment,
- enter your name as the subject/headline (which will make a new header for you in the log), and
- sign your name at the end of your comment by typing four tildes: ~~~~. (This code makes a link to your user page, which readers can use to welcome you personally if they like).
- Your comments will then be added to the bottom of the list.
- To add yourself to the list:
You may also like to add yourself to other lists, such as the listing in order of arrival, by country, or by skills (such as translation or photography). Finally, if you want a little personal assistance in using or contributing to the site, you might go through one of the Bootcamps.
An automatically generated list of new users can be found at Special:Log/Newusers.

Hello. I'm BCube.
Hello! I got a welcome and followed a link here. I look forward to contributing on Wikipedia! I also have a lot of time on my hands (currently), so I can do some research and expand on miscellanious articles.
Wikipedia is a great, comprehensive resource for just about anything. I hope to make it better. B|Cube|contribs 19:32, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello all! I got a welcome, followed the link, and eventually explored my way to here. I've been editing and updating mostly football related articles, with a special interest in neglected World Cup referees. Nice to meet you all, and I look forward to contributing to the project! hello, i'm just getting started and i think i'll need some getting-used-to for abit.
A little information on Naturemisstress
Here is a little bit of information about myself and what I possibly will do to benefit Wikipedia. First of all I have no one interest. I am interested in pretty much everything. I love nature and playing outdoors, I also enjoy gardening. I also love doing puzzle's and especially research. I plan on creating new articles that have to do with subjects that are not on wikipedia yet. Since I do so much research I also plan on making the existing articles more accurate.
If you know of a website that gives accurate information on anything e-mail me please.
I am impressed!
After a very very long time I am impressed and truly happy to see a Website. Its like one of those things on which I feel how could I possibly know about it! I dont know why i didnt come accross Wikipedia before .... but I sure am happy to be a member of this every growing knowledge base. I have added something from my area of interest: Gardaa U can just search for it to see what it is. I am hopeful to add more stuff soon. Its good to learn new stuff and share your knowledge with everyone else. I am glad that someone in this world has realized that sharing knowledge only refines and grows it! Lods of Luv....

Hi, my name is Mike and I am really enjoying contributing. I believe that free access to fine quality information is important. I'm so happy that I am able to contribute in some small way to possibly making the world a better place. Wiki articles are almost always extrremely informative. I especially appreciate the fine science and technology articles. I have a special interest in open courseware, and I would like to see a complete set of curricula (books, applets, and video lectures offerred for free online. Many schools have started offerring these materials (See MIT for example.) Unfortunately, this kind of material haas not been offerred in a complete program for elementary school through high school.
I would also like to see a counter added to articles. It would be fun to see how many hits an article one has contributed to has gotten.

Hello everyone, I have come here out necessity. I want to add a new word to the english/engineering lexicon. The word is "conjective". It is a compound word derived from "construct" + "objective" = "conjective". The current definition is a little spartan and is still under development.
Conjective: A technical construct specifically related to engineering (et.al), that supports one or more technical objectives. (construct + objective = conjective).
Supporting rationale: I am currently working on a policy document that defines an engineering construct (process) for Aegis BMD. I originally used the term "objective" to define various elements (i.e., activities) that support the overall construct. The term "objective" seemed inadequate because each supporting activity has multiple contextual definitions in the Aegia BMD environment. Something else was needed to fill the void. Various words and phrases are often coined. Some are adopted by concensus, others fade away as novelties of popular culture. This word is needed for many reasons. Looking for opinions.
- You may want to check out this policy first. Wikipedia: No original research

Hello to the world
My user name is Davidadro, and I came here to view the pages of my Alma mater, Huntington Beach High School, to which I was very pleased to find a quality outline of content. I added some dialog into the TALK section concerning the remodel of the 1970's, as I was in attendance during that period of history, but was displeased with how little content there was concerning such a monumentous portion to the whole that makes up the campus even today. I will try and participate in other involvements here in this incredible bank of knowledge, and I wish you all here safe travels, and peace.--Onward and Forward We Go, Together In Eternal Knowledge 04:24, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

My main interest is helping Australians develop Australian content and starting in my own backyard as a starting point. Simon G Best
Hello!
Can't remember how I found out about Wikipedia. Now, it's just one of those things on the web that I use as normal. You know, like Google.
I created a user account some time ago, but didn't get around to doing anything with it until now. I've finally decided to familiarise myself with editing, and the like, so as to begin contributing.
The article that prompted me to actually get active is the one on range coding, as it seems to need some work. (In particular, it seems to be somewhat propagating the urban legend/myth that patents applying to arithmetic coding don't apply to range coding. But my interest is in what arithmetic coding and range coding actually are.)
Anyway, while I'm not intending to spend much time as an editor, I do think it's a good idea for me to make occasional contributions as and when I come across things that I can contribute to. If you know what I mean.
Anyway, that's my introduction.

Hello everybody!. Here's Germán (yes, it sounds like a nationality in the english language), and here I am to try to correct anything I might see incorrect. That, I think, is my best skill: to shape things around correcting things I see, like grammer or ortographic mistakes mostly.

Primary interests include: World War One, World War Two, Programming, How Things Work, Gaming, computers in general. I'm a computer and english teacher at a local K-12.

Though an old netizen, I'm new to Wiki.

G'day all. Loving the wiki world. A question for the welcoming committee... is there a namespace for "original research" or a sub-wiki somewhere where this is allowed? I know this is against the standard wiki 3 rules, but is there a "scratch pad" place where you can collaborate ideas with other people? I've looked but found nothing where I wouldn't be breaking rules. Name's Kea, glad to be here
Not terribly new, since I sort of just dove right into things, but here I am. I'm Keakealani....More about me on my user page, but...I'm mostly interested in doping copy-editing, although of course I'd be happy to lend any of my plethora of random facts to any article that so deserves it...however, it seems that most of the articles I have any knowledge about are already pretty full of facts so I'd be more comfortable working with existing texts with the attempt to make them better
Besides which, the NOR policy makes it difficult, since I don't honestly know where I've gotten most of my knowledge from and therefore can't verify/cite *shrug*
I don't know quite where I found out about wikipedia...probably doing research for school, since this is my typical starting point (I LOVE the "see also"s, they can get me quite far), but I dunno. Needless to say, the idea was right up my alley, since I love to edit and I know lots of random stuff.
Well, hello, anyway ^^;

Hi. I came to Wikipedia by way of the recent essay in the New Yorker. Curious, I found an excellent biography of my father, then began browsing through artists' bios (I am a painter and college teacher. ), and was surprised/dismayed at the need for editing. So I am attempting to correct style and substance of some of the entries, first as an unlisted visitor, now as a logged-in contributor. For the moment, this is a pleasant way to spend free time, at least until the academic year kicks in again, or I start my next painting, whichever comes first. --JNW 22:08, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I've loved Wikipedia for about a year now; the "random article" feature can keep me fascinated for hours. I live in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, and noticed that the articles about that region are a bit threadbare, so decided to help patch them up. I've decided to start with the train lines and stations, since this is an interest of mine. I can read Japanese a little, and need to practice, so I'll be reading Kanagawa-related information on Japanese Wikipedia and bringing it across. Having just registered with Wikipedia today, I am working my way through the introductory and tutorial information as quickly as possible to avoid commiting Wiki faux pas. My passion is the fundamental nature of time. I have been doing research on the topic for over 40 years, and gradually have come to amass a collection of relevant thoughts which I believe are both original and constructive. A gist of these may be found at http://smithjcn.googlepages.com/time. It is my hope that some of these ideas might eventually be incorporated into the Wikipedia. However, my introductory reading already has brought me to the "no original research" rule, which, at first glance would seem to rule out any contribution. This strikes me somehow as a bit of a "Catch 22;" at the same time, however, I can see a possible rationale for such a policy. So for now I will continue on with the Wiki tutorials and see where they lead.

Sofa jazz man
I'm really glad to finally be a wikipedia member. I'm currently pursuing the filling in of red articles brancing out from the Gibson Guitar Corporation.

Hi I'm newish. I suppose I'll mostly be updating music/musician pages as well as cleaning up grammar dead links etc, whenever I come across those kinds of problems. DiggyG 04:04, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
