ProjectScotland is a volunteering organisation allowing 16 to 30-year-olds to volunteer with a variety of non-profit organisations. All placements are for 20 - 30 hours per week and last for 3 months.

To date, ProjectScotland has placed 5000 young people, who have in turn completed 3 million hours worth of volunteering throughout Scotland.

ProjectScotland was inspired by the AmeriCorps organisation. It was set up in May 2005 by Julia Ogilvy, Graeme Alexander, Colette Douglas-Home and others.

Volunteers

ProjectScotland provides 16 to 30 year-olds, living in Scotland, an opportunity to volunteer with a charity.

In return for their time, volunteers get experience of work, skills and an opportunity to contribute to their community.

Volunteers can still claim Jobseeker's Allowance, and receive a travel allowance. They also receive invitations to employability workshops and are offered the additional support of a mentor.

Mentors

Each ProjectScotland volunteer is offered a mentor.

Mentors are individuals over the age of 18 who have an interest in young people and making a difference to a young person's life.

ProjectScotland mentors receive training before being matched with a volunteer. Once in contact, a mentor will commit at least one hour a week to supporting their volunteer.

Partners

ProjectScotland has partnered with 540 charities in Scotland, at a national and local level. These include National Trust for Scotland, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Scottish Wildlife Trust, People's Dispensary for Sick Animals and National Museums Scotland.
