Computer Economics [1] is an IT research firm focusing on the strategic and financial management of information systems. It was founded in 1978 and is currently headquartered in Irvine, California, USA. Clients include major IT organizations, large consulting firms, and financial services firms in North America and over 70 countries. Its Computer Economics Report, first published in 1979, is one of the oldest monthly newsletters related to IT cost management. Its IT Spending, Staffing, and Technology Trends study, first published in 1990, is the oldest annual survey on IT spending and staffing trends in the U.S. The firm also publishes special reports on IT spending and staffing metrics, IT salaries, IT security, malware, and other topics. In addition, the firm maintains extensive data on vendor pricing and discounting, fair market values, and residual value forecasts for computer hardware.

The firm does not accept research sponsorships from technology vendors.
