A virtual disk, virtual drive or disk image is a computer file that contain the exact structure of an actual disk and may be used in hardware virtualization

A virtual disk or virtual drive may also refer to:

  • Logical disk, a virtual storage device that represents one or more actual disks; it spares individual computer programs the burden of dealing with intricacies of reading and writing on multiple actual disks.
  • RAM drive, a virtual storage device that stores its data in random access memory instead of a physical disk; it is fast but volatile
