Secure Communication based on Quantum Cryptography (SECOQC) is a project that aims to develop quantum cryptography. The European Union decided to invest 11 million EUR in the project as a way of circumventing espionage attempts by ECHELON. Christian Monyk, the coordinator of SECOQC, said people and organizations in the Republic of Austria, Belgium, United Kingdom, Canada, the Czech Republic, the Kingdom of Denmark, the French Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Italian Republic, the Russian Federation, the Kingdom of Sweden, and the Swiss Confederation would participate in the project.
