Ultrasonic pulse velocity test is a non destructive test to check the quality of concrete in situ. In this test strength and quality of concrete is assessed by measuring the velocity of ultrasonic pulse passing through a concrete structure. This test is conducted by passing a pulse of ultrasonic wave through concrete to be tested and measuring the time taken by pulse to get through the structure. Higher velocity is obtained for good quality of concrete and vice versa. In India, this test should be conducted according to IS13311-1992 as it helps in comparison of quality of concrete as per Indian Standard code of practices.
