Request on 15:30:33, 4 April 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Kaoblues

Kaoblues (talk) 15:30, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Kaoblues: Please read WP:MUSICBIO and make sure that Nikki James meets the requirements for a Wikipedia article. If she does, you will need to provide citations to significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article to show that those requirements are met. --Ahecht (TALK

16:06:15, 4 April 2015 review of submission by Abhyudaya Tripathi (talk) 16:20, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi, This is my second article in Wikipedia.I have written this article as per the Wikipedia guidelines and added reliable third party resources such as Peta and Google Patent websites to justify my article. Kindly, review my article again and help me to improve it.

Regards, Abhyudaya Tripathi (talk) 16:20, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Abhyudaya Tripathi - I'm afraid patents only prove existence - they do nothing to prove notability because a patent document is created by or on behalf of the applicant, so it is not independent. Please see the minimum notability standard for companies. The draft is also totally written as an advertisement - please remove ALL of the evaluative adjectives and stick to only the dry facts. Request on 14:13:31, 6 April 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Ktthatme

Hello, I am requesting help to get this page get publish, I have tried my hardest and cannot seem to get it to where it needs to be to be published. So if anyone would be able to help that would be greatly appreciated.

Ktthatme (talk) 14:13, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ktthatme: The fundamental problem is a shortage of reliable, independent, secondary sources about G-Fresh. I searched the main places and the Maine places, but other than coverage of the Nigerian singer Gabriel Afolayan (who also goes by G-Fresh), found only one trivial mention in the Bangor Daily New's Culture Shock blog. G-Fresh does not appear to be a suitable topic for an encyclopedia article at this time. Worldbruce (talk) 07:06, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 14:37:32, 6 April 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by North Muskoka

North Muskoka (talk) 14:37, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello editor gurus! I tried to post this earlier but not sure I did it correctly, so here it is again just in case. My first Wikipedia submission has been rejected because "This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia." Other articles for similar topics (a tourism region) are similarly worded to mine so I'm not sure where I went wrong. One suggestion was to add more sources, which I am in the process of doing. If you have other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. The page in question is North Muskoka. Thanks!

Your Draft is written like an advertisement in that it concentrates mainly on explaining what is there for the visitor. This needs to be fixed in addition to any issues of sourcing.
Using existing articles as examples is only useful if the articles you compare with are of recognised quality. You can find a list of recognised Wikipedia Good Articles about areas in North America at Wikipedia:Good articles/Geography and places#North America. Request on 14:40:26, 6 April 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by JAS1127

I have edited the entry with factual data and have provided references for such information. The reviewer says the entry is promotional in nature, yet I am not sure how that can be when I've only included the facts. One of the facts is that this test is a one of a kind---it is the only test on the market currently. Does that make the entry promotional because there is only one test like this available? I am not sure how to remedy the situation in order to be successful and have the entry accepted. I am not a coder or programmer, so a lot of this formatting is weird to me as well. Any help you can provide that gives me direction in regards to the promotional nature the reviewer believes is part of the entry and the formatting would be helpful. JAS1127 (talk) 14:40, 6 April 2015 (UTC)JAS1127[reply]

JAS1127 (talk) 14:40, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@JAS1127: User:Flat Out is the best one to elaborate on what he found promotional in the tone of Draft:NephroCheck. I'm confident, however, that any reservations had nothing to do with the test being one-of-a-kind.
Please review and try to apply Wikipedia:Make technical articles understandable.
Also realize that the writing style and what you choose to include and omit can make an article promotional even when you're using neutral language. The draft reads like a diagnostic test maker's sales representative talking to a doctor. Perhaps you have a medical background and that has made you write this way.
Think about what other aspects of the subject a journalist might cover. Might they mention who developed the test, when they developed it, how long it took to develop, where it was developed, how much it cost to develop, how much it costs patients, how much it improves outcomes...? Put yourself in the place of a reader interested in the history of medicine, one interested in the medical industry, one interested in health care costs, or one whose doctor has recommended they have this test. Would they get what they want to know out of the article? We like detail and accuracy; we're not saying dumb it down, but make the article serve as broad an audience as possible.
I've taken care of the formatting for you. Worldbruce (talk) 19:58, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 17:53:05, 6 April 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Gelegenheitsleser

Hi, though I have gray hair and 43 years in computing, I am new to Wikipedia editing. I was under the impression, I had removed all inline citations which referenced pages outside the Wikipedia universe, after the first refusal. Please advise me, were I am wrong.

As for the general claim, facts about my academic career were unsubstantiated, I am kind of helpless. Obviously, my graduation records are not online but were well documented whenever I received an offer for a professorship in computer science. Why would anybody who held a chair and gave presentations at Stanford, Princeton, and Jons Hopkins and corresponded with Donald Knuth and Edsgar Dijkstra lie about his high school graduation? Roman law knows the principle of "bonna fides" (explanation can be found on Wikipedia) - may I ask for its application. Thanks for any help.

Gelegenheitsleser (talk) 17:53, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you mean Draft:Lutz Michael Wegner, where "Besides his scientific achievements Wegner was instrumental in introducing computer science studies (Bachelor and Master) at the University of Kassel which started in 2001 after securing three additional, sponsored professorships with Traudl Herrhausen, then a member of the Hessian Parliament, opening doors to industry and charities." has no citation at all. You also need to attend to the "Achievements" section which is lacking in references. One is to a user editable Wiki, which is inadmissible.
I wonder why you feel you need to have a Wikipedia page about yourself. Those writing autobiographies are not the best qualified to do this. Fiddle Faddle 08:37, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the feedback that this submission constitutes an "advertisement". However, I have provided more than two dozen independent references and I have tried to scupulously avoid adjectives that are promotional. I believe that I have submitted a factual description of the importance and impact of this non-profit vision institute and hope that the reviewers can be more specific in helping me modify the contents so that it is acceptable. Thank you.

05:06:04, 7 April 2015 review of submission by GailRice

I need help!!!!! The process of developing an acceptable entry for Wikipedia has been difficult and mysterious.

Here is a message from "ToonLucas22" (6 April 2015) regarding the revised Wikipedia submission for the scientific journal AoB PLANTS.

"This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability—see the guidelines on the notability of organizations and companies and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. What you can do: Add citations (see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners) to secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject."

"Flat Out" declined the first draft on 25 March 2015 for the same reason, and in a revised draft I added references that seem to have been perfectly acceptable for a number of other Wikipedia entries. The article is modeled after published Wikipedia entries for similar scientific journals including Oecologia, Journal of Environmental Biology, New Phytologist, Journal of Ecology, Conservation Biology, and Annals of Botany (which is a sister journal under the same ownership). I have supplied the same kinds of references as are used in these articles, but my AoB PLANTS draft continues to be declined, and I am confounded by your requirements!!!!!!! I am being pressured by my employers and my supervisor to get this entry published, and I need to figure out how to communicate with whoever is assessing my drafts to appeal the decision and find out what in the world can be missing from the second draft. The links direct me to an odd "talk" page where there is noplace to talk!

Also, I have a letter (email from the company secretary/treasurer granting permission to use the journal's cover image without restriction. Where do I direct this permission? GailRice (talk) 05:06, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There are several points here:
  1. Read WP:COI and understand that we have no interest of any description in any pressure you are under. Perennially you have my sympathy. Wikipedia has no sympathy
  2. All those exclamation marks do not endear your cause to us
  3. We are capable of reading prior reviews on the draft
  4. Patently you are confused. The best way of getting help is not by being confounded, but by asking
  5. Other articles never, not ever, set a precedent here. If they did we would model articles after increasingly poorer articles and descend into idiocracy
  6. What possible commercial benefit is there for your employer to have an article here? They can do vanity publishing on their own web site
Now, I will have a look at the draft. If I have anything to add I will add it there. Fiddle Faddle 09:49, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Fiddle Faddle 11:26, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi GailRice, I sympathise with your predicament. First show your bosses the WP:PSCOI and WP:DEADLINE pages, so that they may either drop the whole idea or at least ease up the time pressure, then for your own elucidation take a good look at the notability guidelines for academic journals. I hope this helps. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:49, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@GailRice: Although you'll never persuade an experienced editor using the argument that a draft is like an existing article, it's natural to compare articles and learn by example. Make sure you're studying the best possible examples. Wikipedia has no great (i.e. featured), and only two good, articles about academic journals: The Accounting Review and Genes, Brain and Behavior.
Another resource that you may find helpful, in addition to those mentioned above and in the reviews of the draft, is the essay Wikipedia:WikiProject Academic Journals/Writing guide. Worldbruce (talk) 05:52, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
GailRice, discussing your draft with the members of WP:WikiProject Academic Journals would probably be most useful as they are editors who are directly experienced and interested in the topic of Academic Journals. I will alert them about this discussion too. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:37, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Some helpful tips on how to write a good journal article can be found in our journal article writing guide. There are also a number of links and pre-formatted references on my user page that may be helpful. This journal clearly meets WP:NJournals, given that it has a sizeable impact factor (a "real" one, not one of those fakes that recently are cropping up). The article could use some cleanup before going "life", though. If I find time, I'll do something myself, but the writing guide is clear enough for anybody to follow, I think. --Randykitty (talk) 10:12, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have given the draft a work over and it is ready to go to mainspace. The journal clearly meets WP:NJournals and there is basically zero chance that this would be deleted after AfD. As for the COI, close adherence to the journal article writing guide virtually guarantees a neutral, NPOV article, even if written by a representative of the publisher. --Randykitty (talk) 10:50, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Accepted with thanks to Randykitty for the work done. Long may it be expanded as an article. Fiddle Faddle 11:13, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dcw2003 (talk) 13:12, 7 April 2015 (UTC) I am having some difficulty reducing the size of an photo image which currently appears in my article. I would like to know the proper format for the imagesize= variable so that I may properly reduce the size of the image as it appears in the article. Do you need to put a measure such as centimeters or inches? This image is in a draft article entitled Dave Palitz, currently in my user area.[reply]

@Dcw2003: The units of imagesize are width in pixels. I updated your draft to reduce the size of the image, but you can adjust it as you see fit. --Ahecht (TALK

Datablue12 (talk) 16:02, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Datablue12: Yes, they start off the same, but you may find the {{Infobox person}} template helpful for the top of your article. Note that there is a higher standard for citations for biographies. Every statement of fact must be backed up with an in-line citation. If you are trying to create your own bio page, you can edit User:Datablue12 directly. The following article was rejected: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Greg_Miller and I believe it is due to lack of sources but I added a bunch at the end of the article as shown in the article template. The sources directly support the information in the article. Do I need more? I would like a little better understanding of what I need to do to fix it. Can you be more specific? Thank you!

18:22:02, 7 April 2015 review of submission by DMarkz88

In my feedback the main focus for my rejection was that my references do not adequately show my subjects notability. I was just curious as to how? My references included articles from the NY Times, a very well known newspaper, also The Pennsylvania State University's official athletic website, my subject's own ESPN page on their website, and lastly a well known site for hockey stats. DMarkz88 (talk) 18:22, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@DMarkz88: As I said in my comment on the page, please review WP:NHOCKEY. A hockey player is generally not considered notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia until they have played a game for a fully professional league. Once he graduates, if the Islanders or any other NHL team let him play in a regular or post-season game, then he can have a Wikipedia article. For now, it is too soon. --Ahecht (TALK

03:47:10, 8 April 2015 review of submission by MikePotter84

I need to add pictures to my article. How can I do so?

MikePotter84 (talk) 03:47, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MikePotter84: It depends what type of image you'd like to add.
  • Is it an official logo of the mall/company? You can upload it here on Wikipedia as a copyrighted non-free file. However, non-free files should only be used on live articles. Since your page is a draft, you'll want to hold off on doing this until your draft is an article.
  • Is it a picture you took yourself? You may upload it at the Wikimedia Commons, a repository for free media files. You'll have to choose an appropriate free license to publish your image under.
  • Is it a picture you found on the web? It will have to have been freely licensed by its author in a way that's compatible with the Commons - that is, it has to be free for anyone to use, for any purpose. The vast majority of images you find online are fully copyrighted and not published under a free license.
If you have any questions or need any elaboration, feel free to ask. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 15:02, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 05:34:24, 8 April 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by BMHyatt

Apparently I am unsure of what I need to do to submit an article and have it published. My article was rejected. BMHyatt (talk) 05:34, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@BMHyatt: The overriding problem with Draft:Texas Rattlesnake Festival is that it links to only the festival's official page and Facebook page - it cites no independent, reliable, secondary sources. Because it is a small, young festival, there may be no such sources, in which case there will be no Wikipedia article.
No sources turned up in Google searches. You can try searching regional media outlets - newspapers, radio, TV stations, and magazines - that may not be indexed by the major search engines. You'll need to find multiple sources with significant coverage, and at least one will have to be outside the local area. Worldbruce (talk) 06:42, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Logeswar M (talk) 07:46, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The onus is on you to find sources. We require references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, and in WP:RS please. See WP:42. No sources = not a topic we will accept. IT has not just been pushed back to you for sourcing. The latest reviewer has suggested it is an advert. I made a page about The Echo, a student-run newspaper at Western Connecticut State University. I cannot find any sources other than primary ones -- the university website, the university Wikipedia page, and The Echo's webpage itself. For this reason my article got declined. It's an existing publication so I want to make a page for it. Any advice?

Jasprogis (talk) 15:11, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jasprogis: Well, if there aren't any independent and non-primary sources, then the subject most likely does not meet our notability guidelines. Even if it is an existing publication, not everything gets an article on Wikipedia - we only cover subjects that are considered noteworthy through significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 15:33, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Jasprogis: Even if there aren't enough sources to show that the subject is notable enough for its own article, you could flesh out the Student newspaper section of the Western Connecticut State University article. --Ahecht (TALK

21:20:31, 8 April 2015 review of submission by 3Wolves

The draft entry "Bioss" was declined on March 31 with the explanation "This submission appears to be taken from http://www.bioss.com/about/our-history/. Wikipedia cannot accept material copied from elsewhere, unless it explicitly exists under a compatible licence and is written in an acceptable tone".

Since I had submitted a compatible license (following all instructions including a page archive at webcitation.org) I'm assuming that the issue was "acceptable tone", but I'm not exactly sure what part of the article was unacceptable. If possible, I would like to cut the unacceptable elements, even if it means removing entire sections, rather than having to rewrite the entire article from scratch.

However, when I click through the link to "ask the reviewer that declined your submission", I note that that reviewer has been blocked: "(6 April 2015 Beeblebrox blocked SD0001 with an expiry time of 2 years (account creation blocked, email disabled, cannot edit own talk page)"

Is there any way to request another reviewer to view the page and advise more specifically what elements should be removed or rewritten?

Many thanks! 3Wolves

I have built a page for the muti-media artist Mikee Plastik, whom I represent. It was declined once, for references, I have since gone back and re-edited in several references, many from notable sites, such as MTV.com, and various official film IMDb sites for projects that he has been involved with, etc... I want the references to work with the article... I could go through Plastik's Google listing and archives and add dozens more references from music sites, reviews, etc... but feel there is enough listed at this moment in time (nearly a dozen verifiable references) without having to list more for the sake of just doing so. Want to keep what I have wrote well rounded for the type of artist he is and somewhat brief, in order to give other users room to make their own edits and statements about him and his work. Hopefully, I won't have to ruin the way that the article is formatted just to clutter it up with reference after reference, which would make it read as a dong slinging article.

no Declined for reasons stated on the draft. The referencing is misunderstood. Fiddle Faddle 16:39, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have been told their are issues that need to be corrected so need assistance in how to specifically make those corrections?

Sabrinap2015 (talk) 19:48, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Sabrinap2015: I have corrected some of the formatting and resubmitted the article. I've got to nip out in a mo, but it looks notable enough to pass from a cursory look. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:04, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
However, it has been in main namespace for some time. On that basis I have just declined the Draft version. Fiddle Faddle 07:44, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Timtrent: - what I tend to find useful in those circumstances is to quietly redirect the draft to the mainspace (it was created by the same user). I did quickly look yesterday before heading out the door, but the mainspace article was "Profiles In History" so I didn't notice. I've cleaned things up a bit now. That also works. Fiddle Faddle 08:38, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly advise on the article.

It wasn't meant to be an advertisement as the review suggests...it is just information on who and how the business was started and where it operates. There is no mention of its products nor how it operates...i dont believe it thus qualifies as an advertisement. Kindly review or advise on what i should remove/edit for it to comply.

Regards,

Isaiah.

I have left you a comment on the draft and notified you on your talk page that I have done so. Fiddle Faddle 09:56, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My article link is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:International_Cities_of_Peace Please let me know who i can move forward to publish my page.

@Icpnaveed: Your article is queued for submission, however while you have fixed the basic formatting problems outlined by @Timtrent:, there is a more basic problem in that there doesn't appear to be any reliable sources that explain in depth why the organisation is important or should have a Wikipedia article. You need to put references to those (not whole websites, but specific pages, or even better, pages in books) otherwise the submission is likely to be declined again. I have made the changes on my article as per the feedback given by Wikipedia Team but all the times it has rejected. They said that article doesn't have adequate resources to justify the facts. I have added well known references those are justifying the stats.

It would be very helpful if I could modify the filename of my already created article Abraham Jacob Hollandersky so that it can be accessed as Abe "The Newsboy" Hollandersky. This should greatly increase its visibility to users trying to access Abe's bio via the internet. He never really used his middle name, and nearly every article on him and his book referred to his ringname "Abe the Newsboy".

Can I do this myself my moving the source code to a created file space using Article Wizard?

I can remember the other articles that link to the file, and change the links with no problem.

THANKS, I would love to be able to do this!!!

You can use the "move" process to do this. We "move" rather than rename. An alternative approach is to create Abe "The Newsboy" Hollandersky and create it as a redirect to Abraham Jacob Hollandersky, considering adding Abe the Newsboy as well. Fiddle Faddle 19:52, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

07:25:41, 11 April 2015 review of submission by Andrew Foss

Hi. Thanks for reviewing my article. I am a little confused as to why it needs better references as I have cited from the protocol definition itself which is referenced. There would be no more credible source than this.
