Lewis Addison Armistead was a commander in the Confederate States of America. He served with the Army of North Virginia, and was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg while leading in the front line of Pickett's Charge. He was very good friends with the Union general Winfield Scott Hancock. After the war Hancock visited Armistead's widowed wife and honored his friend's memory, even though they fought on different sides of the war.
