10:56:07, 31 March 2015 review of submission by Paologinari
- Paologinari (talk · contribs) (TB)
Hello. I am wondering why this page was rejected. When I decided to work on this page, I looked at comparable organisations in the UK, such as the Foreign Policy Centre and the Bruges Group. Both of these pages have fewer references than my page did, and in the case of the Foreign Policy Centre the only reference is to a page on its own website. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know what it is about these pages that I can emulate for my own. Thanks a lot.

Request on 13:32:06, 31 March 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Dcw2003
I need some help with a simple format for citing webpages used in line references. The examples I've seen in published articles seem a bit complex to follow.
Thanks.
Dcw2003 (talk) 13:32, 31 March 2015 (UTC) review of submission by 96.41.124.60
- @Dcw2003: There are a few simple ways. One is using the RefToolbar, which you can get more information about at Help:Referencing_for_beginners#Using_refToolbar.
- Another way is to just put the URL between <ref> and </ref> tags, such as:
<ref>http://www.example.com/article.html</ref>
- One you have done that, you can go to https://tools.wmflabs.org/refill/, paste in the name of your draft (including the Draft: part), and run the tool. It will help fill out the references automatically, but you will be required to check that it got all the information correct and didn't miss anything. --Ahecht (TALK

- It reads like an advertisement:
- improve lives through the power of smart communications
- over 600 communications professionals
- span the social sector
- best practices insight
- most effectively utilize
- strategic overhaul
- committed to advancing
- representing a diverse array
- exclusive online resources
- wide in scope and meaningful in depth
- leading voices
- You also don't need to list every single person on the board of directors.
- And it doesn't have any independent sources, which prevents it meeting Wikipedia:VRS. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 07:00, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Could someone please help me with my articles for creation - June Julian I have made several significant changes, adding more references & images. Dr. Julian has had a major exhibit in Italy in September that was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy. I am looking forward to working with you on this article. Thank you, LincolnSpencerLincolnspencer (talk) 18:09, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- I can't help with this, as, being but a simple soldier, I don't understand what "art as social practice through community authorship" and "the human narrative" are. The page Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/June Julian is not currently submitted for review, so you should put {{subst:submit}} at the top of it if you feel it is ready for another review. Removing the comments and suggestions made by previous reviewers tends not to help the process. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 06:50, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
21:19:47, 31 March 2015 review of draft by SDscribbler
- SDscribbler (talk · contribs) (TB)
Hello, I am creating a draft of my first article and have a couple of questions. First, how do I create the text box that appears at the upper right of some articles, the ones that contain the organization's address and website info? Also, My list of references looks a little off, not sure why I have 4 blank spots for references on top of where my references appear. Any and all help would be appreciated, if you have any other feedback as well. Thank you!
SDscribbler (talk) 21:19, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- @SDscribbler: Your reference tags should go in the article text, not in the references section at the end. When you preview the article, any text between <ref> and </ref> tags will automatically show up in the references section. For example:
The sky is blue.<ref>http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/blue-sky/en/</ref> Water is wet.<ref>http://www.planet-science.com/categories/under-11s/our-world/2012/02/why-is-water-wet.aspx</ref>
- As for the text box, that is called an infobox. I placed an empty template on your draft that you can fill out, and you can go to {{Infobox organization}} for more information on what the parameters mean. You don't have to (and probably shouldn't) try to fill out all the fields -- most of them should probably be left blank. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 20:12, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
- The text box at the top right is an infobox. It looks like you have an appropriate one in your Draft now.
- Have you tried looking at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners? This should help you to cite sources with inline citations. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 06:44, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Thank you to Roger (Dodger67) who answered why there was a "copyright" problem when I had written the entire article myself. I looked at the link where the websites where there is possible copyright infringement are compared with my article- yes, as Roger says "The "overlaps" consist almost entirely of titles of musical works, names of people and a few standard phrases - thus it's not a copyvio." I am going to resubmit now, but how can I make sure it is not declined again for the same reason? Many thanks!!! Musicmusiques

Dear editor,
I created a page in Wikipedia. I wrote an article about one of Mathematician in Azerbaujan. I wrote it in Azer Language. But yor team replied that This is the English Language Wikipedia; we can only accept articles written in the English Language. But? I see a lot of articles in wikipedia in different languages suah as Azerbaijani, Turkish etc.

I asked for help in my earlier reply as I have changed over to fotnotes as requested. the second reviewer is again asking for the same thing. Clearly something is wrong but I do not understand what and the posts etc (loinks) provided, and video (youtube) have not helped to understand 1) what really is the problem with my footnotes and 2) what exactly do you want and 3) how!?
I asked last time for an example of how to do this as the information p[rovided is inadequate. i also have no idea whet the information in the pink boxes above mean. 'copy and paste the following code into the header bar'. Where is the header bar?!?
If a human could actually help and advise, I would be grateful. Thank you.
Drangusmcleod (talk) 09:38, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
- A little bit patronising, that request for a human, don't you think? How lucky I am immune to being patronised and have replied on the draft. A chap of your calibre, judging by the track record you express in your autobiography, really ought to be able to handle this stuff. Ah wait. That was patronising. I apologise.
- Now, do consider why you want a page on yourself on Wikipedia? We discourage autobiographies. Generally you are not the best qualified person to rote about yourself because you cannot ever be impartial. How do you know if you are notable, for example? Fiddle Faddle 10:25, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

On March 18 I submitted Talen Energy for an AFC. On March 19 Reviewer L235 declined on the basis of not enough refs to support notability. Following their advice I added several independent, reliable, secondary sources and resubmitted. On March 22 I received a reply from L235 stating I’m still not sure but will refer to another reviewer for an independent look. Unfortunately, some of the history became hidden in a misnamed archive - This isn't my talk page but I noticed that you have both User talk:L235/Archives/ 20 and User talk:L235/Archive 20. I could be wrong, but that probably isn't a good sign. Dustin (talk) 02:21, 30 March 2015 (UTC). This is the correct page [1]
My question is: did this cause a loss in the queue or is it simply a matter of too many articles/too few reviewers? Cheers. Grahamboat (talk) 17:57, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

i edited my article again, correcting some of my mistakes and adding more detail and elements. i just want to ask, what is meant by this "articles on fictional subjects should cover their real-world context and contain sourced analysis, offering detail on a work's development, impact or historical significance" and how do i fix it? Can i have an example?
Medals97 (talk) 05:58, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, Up in the Air (2009 film) is an example of a recognised Wikipedia Good Article about a comedy film released in the same era. The significant difference to note is that the Plot section takes up a relatively small proportion of the article, and there is a wide range of independent sources used to support the article content.
- Numerous other recognised Wikipedia Good Articles about films can be found at Wikipedia:Good articles/Media and drama#Films. A Draft need not be as long or comprehensive as these to be accepted, but they can give a good idea of the sort of structure and balance to aim for. I don't want to have it rejected again when I submit it. - @Frankgray: The way to get a reviewer to look at the revisions in your article is to submit it for review. There's no downside to getting rejected again -- it just means that you have more work to do. This help desk is not a way to "jump the queue" to get your article looked at. --Ahecht (TALK

14:33:04, 2 April 2015 review of submission by WhitneyWells
- WhitneyWells (talk · contribs) (TB)
A reviewer added a line in the references about an article in the dallas morning news about this doctor. That article presents the surgeon in a negative light. The article is also false as the surgeon was found innocent in all counts! It was published prior to the surgeon knowing anything about it and the surgeon was found absolutely innocent. This should not be a listed reference because it has nothing to do with this doctor or his accomplishments.
WhitneyWells (talk) 14:33, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- @WhitneyWells: Unfortunately, having a Wikipedia article written about a person means that the article will contain both positive and negative information about them. If reliable sources reported on a subject there is nothing wrong with including it in the article, even if it portrays them in a negative light. Is the article "false" in stating that the University demoted him?
- If reliable sources also reported later that he was found innocent, you can add that to the article so it would read something like:
- In 2013, ''[[The Dallas Morning News]]'' reported that Snodgrass had been demoted from his leadership positions at Children's Medical Center and [[The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center]]. The university said that he demonstrated judgment "inconsistent with our values and expectations of our leaders" when he invited a visiting lecturer to Children's. The visitor's medical license had previously been suspended following allegations of sexual misconduct with patients.<ref name=Egerton>{{cite web|last1=Egerton|first1=Brooks|title=UT Southwestern demotes surgeon who invited alleged sex abuser as guest lecturer|url=http://www.dallasnews.com/investigations/headlines/20130913-ut-southwestern-demotes-surgeon-who-invited-alleged-sex-abuser-as-guest-lecturer.ece|publisher=[[The Dallas Morning News]]|accessdate=April 2, 2015|date=September 13, 2013}}</ref> However, in SOMEYEAR, Dr. Snodgrass was found not to have committed any wrongdoing.<ref>RELIABLESOURCE</ref>
- But you shouldn't remove the demotion just because it presents him in a negative light. --Ahecht (TALK

It was cleared up. A new article was never published because by the time the court hearing happened overseas it was old news here in the US. Either way this shouldn't effect Dr. Snodgrass. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/west_midlands/7906766.stm Bracka is another internationally known hypospadias specialist. BRacka was acquitted in all instances. We are dealing with a birth defect of the penis. It's obviously a sensitive matter and the young men who go through this have a lot of emotional damage from not having a functional penis. They want someone to take that rage out on. In all cases the courts agreed that no misconduct occurred here. Please consider that while I understand positive and negative information is out there- this has nothing to do with Dr. Snodgrass. He invited the only other world specialist there was to a conference that was all about hypospadias repair. That's it. Thank you.
- I just don't think it's accurate to describe this as "cleared up." Both before and after the acquittal, the plastic surgeon's medical board investigated allegations of a sexual nature. A couple of years before the trial, they required the surgeon to have a chaperone present for exams. After the trial, another investigation found allegations that were credible and disturbing enough to suspend him. He remains suspended by that agency. The suspension occurred several months before the visit to Dallas (facilitated by Snodgrass). I couldn't find any source indicating that Snodgrass was returned to his leadership position. EricEnfermero (Talk) 11:07, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
- I would also say that I didn't include the trial/acquittal information or the previous disciplinary action, because it didn't seem directly related to Snodgrass. Dr. Snodgrass seems notable in urology for his innovations in surgery and I didn't want to give this issue undue weight by going on and on about the plastic surgeon. I think the current wording provides a good explanation of why he lost his leadership position at UTSW/Children's - without harping on the issue unnecessarily. EricEnfermero (Talk) 11:19, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
EricEnfermero The doctor had no idea of any of these overseas hearings or the other surgeons problems before inviting him! Again it was unfair because Dr. Snodgrass was surprised and upset and got a call from Childrens finding out about the whole thing minutes before they went on stage and there was nothing they could do at that point. Childrens said not to say anything it would just make things worse and it would all blow over but because the trial didn't happen until such a long time later it became a big stink. It's very unfair to say it was poor judgement when he didn't even know. And now it's supposed to tarnish him when it had nothing to do with him? Bracka was fully acquitted and the courts found that the nature of any exam like this must be performed in this matter to diagnose properly. Bracka was the only other world expert which is why they needed him for that conference. It's really unfair to taint one doctors whole appearance over something that was completely shocking and out of his control. Thats all. I really appreciate your help and understanding. Please make Dr. Snodgrass' page about him and his procedure...not about the things that happened to a world expert in his same field of medicine that lived across the world from him. Please? Can you follow up with me? And is there any way you can talk about the Charity dr. Snodgrass started? It's called Operation Happenis and hypospadias moms want to raise awareness about it because its the second most common birth defect in the world! And they are hoping to do a 5K to kick off the charity sometime next year! It would be so amazing! Thanks again! WhitneyWells (talk) 14:35, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
QUESTION: EricEnfermero if you are having to say what the DMA article said can you word it in a way that more accurately presents what occurred? Example: "Snodgrass was removed as academic chief of pediatric urology for inviting Aivar Bracka, another internationally known hypospadias surgeon, to moderate a scientific program when it was learned that Mr. Bracka's license had been removed for allegations of inappropriate sexual contacts with patients." It is also a fact not emphasized by the DMA but emphasized by at least 10 other newspapers (two referenced above) that Bracka had been found innocent of these charges in a British court of law. Thank you so much. WhitneyWells (talk) 14:41, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- Another DMN piece says that he did at least know about the license revocation and that he apologized for not disclosing that to administrators before the surgeon's arrival. I don't think your proposed version would be accurate because the revocation (even if not the entire circumstances) is reported as known (by Snodgrass) well before Snodgrass was removed as chief. My take on mentioning the charity is that it would be more promotional and not so encyclopedic. As far as I can tell, the charity has not been covered in any independent sources at all. My article was rejected for this reason: 'It's a good article but I think it could mention if she's achieved anything else recently or been active at all recently. I'm not sure the current information supports the fact that she was popular. Is this because she received a lot of chart attention (come and go like several artists) or did she have a more noticeable legacy?'. As far as I can see Friday Brown meets the 'notability' requirements by winning international singing competitions and her television work. I have also clearly indicated the period over which she was active. I think the reviewer may also have been confused by my phrase 'popular music singer-songwriter', but that was the arena in which she worked, popular music. It wasn’t intended to indicate her degree of popularity. Any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Ray.Rtwhite (talk) 10:59, 3 April 2015 (UTC) Rtwhite (talk) 10:59, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for reviewing my submission on the band called The Receiver. I followed the notability requirements, and presented information in an unbiased manner. I included references to the band, citing reviews from AllMusic.com, Paste Magazine, The Fader, ColumbusUnderground, and finally Kscope. This should fulfill the requirement: Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent from the musician or ensemble itself. Could you please explain why the page was declined, and what else I could include to gain acceptance? Thank you for your time. Spacecub (talk) 12:23, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

- How can I get the other key contributor's email contact information on the "cc" list for your input and recommended changes?
- In the recommendation, you commented about some editing. How can I get more input to inform where these issues are found in the submission?
Thank you. Donna Dmoncuso (talk) 15:30, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Dmoncuso: You can't get their email addresses, but you can send them an email by going to their user page and clicking the "Email this user" link in the toolbar on the left (although some users will disable this feature). However this is normally not done, as most collaboration should be done on the articles' talk pages or on specific editor's user talk pages, not in private email conversations.
- As for your second question, your article was rejected because it contained information copied and pasted from elsewhere (in this case, a report that says: "Copyright © 2014 by Project HOPE . . . no part of Health Affairs may be reproduced . . . without prior written permission from the Publisher"). - @Abhyudaya Tripathi - I'm afraid patents only prove existence - they do nothing to prove notability because a patent document is created by or on behalf of the applicant, so it is not independent. Hello editor gurus! I tried to post this earlier but not sure I did it correctly, so here it is again just in case. My first Wikipedia submission has been rejected because "This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia." Other articles for similar topics (a tourism region) are similarly worded to mine so I'm not sure where I went wrong. One suggestion was to add more sources, which I am in the process of doing. If you have other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. The page in question is North Muskoka. Thanks!

I have edited the entry with factual data and have provided references for such information. The reviewer says the entry is promotional in nature, yet I am not sure how that can be when I've only included the facts. One of the facts is that this test is a one of a kind---it is the only test on the market currently. Does that make the entry promotional because there is only one test like this available? I am not sure how to remedy the situation in order to be successful and have the entry accepted. I am not a coder or programmer, so a lot of this formatting is weird to me as well. Any help you can provide that gives me direction in regards to the promotional nature the reviewer believes is part of the entry and the formatting would be helpful. Hi, though I have gray hair and 43 years in computing, I am new to Wikipedia editing. I was under the impression, I had removed all inline citations which referenced pages outside the Wikipedia universe, after the first refusal. Please advise me, were I am wrong.
As for the general claim, facts about my academic career were unsubstantiated, I am kind of helpless. Obviously, my graduation records are not online but were well documented whenever I received an offer for a professorship in computer science. Why would anybody who held a chair and gave presentations at Stanford, Princeton, and Jons Hopkins and corresponded with Donald Knuth and Edsgar Dijkstra lie about his high school graduation? Roman law knows the principle of "bonna fides" (explanation can be found on Wikipedia) - may I ask for its application. Thanks for any help.

- I assume you mean Draft:Lutz Michael Wegner, where "Besides his scientific achievements Wegner was instrumental in introducing computer science studies (Bachelor and Master) at the University of Kassel which started in 2001 after securing three additional, sponsored professorships with Traudl Herrhausen, then a member of the Hessian Parliament, opening doors to industry and charities." has no citation at all. You also need to attend to the "Achievements" section which is lacking in references. One is to a user editable Wiki, which is inadmissible.
- I wonder why you feel you need to have a Wikipedia page about yourself. Those wiring autobiographies are not the best qualified to do this. Fiddle Faddle 08:37, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

I understand the feedback that this submission constitutes an "advertisement". However, I have provided more than two dozen independent references and I have tried to scupulously avoid adjectives that are promotional. I believe that I have submitted a factual description of the importance and impact of this non-profit vision institute and hope that the reviewers can be more specific in helping me modify the contents so that it is acceptable. Thank you.

I need help!!!!! The process of developing an acceptable entry for Wikipedia has been difficult and mysterious.
Here is a message from "ToonLucas22" (6 April 2015) regarding the revised Wikipedia submission for the scientific journal AoB PLANTS.
"This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability—see the guidelines on the notability of organizations and companies and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. What you can do: Add citations (see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners) to secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject."
"Flat Out" declined the first draft on 25 March 2015 for the same reason, and in a revised draft I added references that seem to have been perfectly acceptable for a number of other Wikipedia entries. The article is modeled after published Wikipedia entries for similar scientific journals including Oecologia, Journal of Environmental Biology, New Phytologist, Journal of Ecology, Conservation Biology, and Annals of Botany (which is a sister journal under the same ownership). I have supplied the same kinds of references as are used in these articles, but my AoB PLANTS draft continues to be declined, and I am confounded by your requirements!!!!!!! I am being pressured by my employers and my supervisor to get this entry published, and I need to figure out how to communicate with whoever is assessing my drafts to appeal the decision and find out what in the world can be missing from the second draft. The links direct me to an odd "talk" page where there is noplace to talk!
Also, I have a letter (email from the company secretary/treasurer granting permission to use the journal's cover image without restriction. Where do I direct this permission? GailRice (talk) 05:06, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- There are several points here:
- Read WP:COI and understand that we have no interest of any description in any pressure you are under. Perennially you have my sympathy. Wikipedia has no sympathy
- All those exclamation marks do not endear your cause to us
- We are capable of reading prior reviews on the draft
- Patently you are confused. The best way of getting help is not by being confounded, but by asking
- Other articles never, not ever, set a precedent here. If they did we would model articles after increasingly poorer articles and descend into idiocracy
- What possible commercial benefit is there for your employer to have an article here? They can do vanity publishing on their own web site
- Now, I will have a look at the draft. If I have anything to add I will add it there. Fiddle Faddle 09:49, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

I am having some difficulty reducing the size of an photo image which currently appears in my article.
I would like to know the proper format for the imagesize= variable so that I may properly reduce the size of the image as it appears in the article. Do you need to put a measure such as centimeters or inches? This image is in a draft article entitled Dave Palitz, currently in my user area.

I want to create a bio page. Does that start off the same way as an article submission? Thanks Datablue12 (talk) 16:02, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
