Substitution method

The substitution method is an algebraic method used to solve a system of equations. The method is carried out through several simple steps:

1. Isolate a variable with a coefficient of positive one on one side of the equations from one of the two linear equations.

2. Plug the value of the variable into the second equation and solve.
