Sun Grid Engine (SGE) is an opensource Batch-Queuing System that allocates resources such as processors, memory, disk-space, and software licenses to batch jobs. The main features of SGE include:

  • Advanced scheduling algorithms
  • Cluster Queues
  • Fault Tolerance
  • Job arrays


SGE runs on multiple platforms, including:

  • AIX
  • BSD - FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD
  • HP-UX
  • IRIX
  • Linux
  • MacOSX
  • Solaris
  • SUPER-UX
  • Tru64

The next release of SGE (6.1) will also add Windows support.
