12 Labours of Hercules is a series of casual strategy / time management games, developed by Zoom Out Games, published by Jet Dogs. It is loosely based on the ancient Greek myths, especially some of the 12 labours of Hercules. In contrast with the epic myth, Hercules is ironically pictured as not only brave, but also a lazy and simple-minded man, while Cerberus, Hydra, and Scilla look kind enough to make a pet.

Gameplay

The Player’s main task in the game is to clean up the roads, and erect (or repair) the buildings as well as other infrastructure objects, i.e. buildings. The objects block the road. It costs resources to remove an obstacle. Besides the usual obstacles, some of the objects give you resources, when collected. The buildings yield resources when built. The more level of a building is, the more recources are generated. The main challenge is to collect all the objects and clear the road in optimal order. The time spent by the Player to do this is the measure of his/her efficiency. The less time you spend fulfilling the task, the more points you will receive. On some levels, the Player utilizes special bonuses, that give ability to move or work faster for a limited amount of time. The titles feature various mini-games at the end of each stage.

The series

12 Labours of Hercules covers the following myths: Lernean Hydra, capturing of Cerberus, Prometheus, and Chiron the Centaur. Plot: Hercules’ wife, the beautiful Megara, was kidnapped by Hades, and the Player’s task is to help the hero save her. 12 Labours of Hercules II: The Cretan Bull mentions the Nemean Lion, Cretan Bull, Stymphalian Birds, Augean Stables, and the Golden Apples of Hesperides. Plot: Hercules was not satisfied with the speed of ploughing, so he decided to try the enormous Cretan Bull as the prime mover. Hera frightens the Bull with a lighning bolt, causing it to run and demolish everything around. The task is to return the Bull, and fix the broken roads and buildings. 12 Labours of Hercules III: Girl Power includes Scilla, Charybdis, and the Amazonian Queen. Plot: this time, Hercules was disarmed, and then kidnapped together with Cerberus while fighting Scilla and Charybdis. His loving wife Megara must save him.
