A negative database, in the domain of credit cards, refers to a database, usually maintained by credit card companies, of credit card owners who chargeback regularly.

The term negative database also refers to a security concept in database terms where contrary to traditional databases, such database saves attributes that cannot be associated with a certain entry.[1][2] Negative databases have the potential to help prevent inappropriate queries and inferences, while supporting allowable operations Under this scenario, it is desirable that the database support only the allowable queries while protecting the privacy of individual records, say from inspection by an insider
