Wikipedia:Elsevier/Nav Elsevier is an academic publishing company that publishes medical and scientific literature, as a "provider of information solutions that enhance the performance of science, health, and technology professionals, empowering them to make better decisions, deliver better care, and sometimes make groundbreaking discoveries that advance the boundaries of knowledge and human progress. Elsevier provides web-based, digital solutions—among them ScienceDirect, Scopus, Elsevier Research Intelligence and ClinicalKey—and publishes nearly 2,200 journals, including The Lancet and Cell, and over 25,000 book titles."

Elsevier has donated ScienceDirect access. ScienceDirect is their full-text database with "almost a quarter of the world's peer-reviewed scientific content". The database includes over 2,500 journals, 900 serials and 26,000 book titles. Journals include, among others, The Lancet, Cell, Current Biology, Biomaterials, Biological Psychiatry, Social Science & Medicine, Current Biology, Cognition, and Behavioural Brain Research. For a full list of journals included in Elsevier's ScienceDirect, see their website.
Wikipedia Library access
Elsevier is offering 45 free accounts to its published content online on ScienceDirect to help write Wikipedia content in a great variety of topics, from health to astronomy. To facilitate verification in more specific areas of the encyclopedia, the 30 accounts have been split across three access collections:
- 25 accounts for Health & Life Sciences (See the included journals, books, incl. includes reference modules in Chemistry and reference modules in Biomedical Sciences.)
- 10 accounts for Social & Behavioral Sciences (see the included journals and books)
- 10 accounts for Physical Sciences (see the included journals and books incl. reference module in Chemistry and reference module in Earth Systems))
Wikipedia editors may apply for one of these ScienceDirect access collections according to their area of specialty; their account will be valid for a period of one year.

Further participation
Here are a few ways you could help The Wikipedia Library effectively leverage this partnership:
- Add {{Wikipedia:Elsevier/Userbox}} to your user boxes if you have access to this database. This helps us share our project with other experienced users.
- Add your ORCID identifer to your user page; see WP:ORCID
- TWL is interested in having guest bloggers. Guest blogging gives the opportunity for both The Wikipedia Library and Elsevier to profile our partnership, and it gives the guest bloggers a new platform to share their editing experience with others (which is good for the Wikimedia community).
Applications
- We have more applicants than slots for the first donation for the Life Sciences and Physical Sciences packages. However, please apply to be wait listed anyway: high interest in accounts gives us a further sense of the the need for access to our partners!'
- Add yourself at the bottom of the list with a line starting with #{{user8|USERNAME|Project=code}} (eg. {{user8|Example|Project=en}}) followed by an explanation of why you believe the access would be beneficial to you. Make sure to describe which access option you would prefer. It is a good idea to include in your application text: your depth of experience with Wikipedia and other WM projects, your editing areas benefited by access, and examples of your commitment to content creation. Editors may request access to more than one stream but because of limited availability, only one stream will be provided. (Your first choice may be unavailable and your second choice may be granted, instead.)

Rather amazingly, despite working as Wikipedian in Residence at Cancer Research UK, it is actually rather tricky for me to access Elsevier medical material, which I often use. I will also lose any CRUK access from mid-February when my term ends. I have done a lot of work on health articles, mainly related to cancer, and intend to keep editing in this area. FA articles are flight feather and pelican (the latter a group effort), GA articles are red warbler, red-throated loon and black catbird. I've also written most of beak and bird nest. Lately, I've been spending many hours working my way through the massive backlog of articles in the WP:BIRD cleanup listing; access to Elsevier's journals would definitely help with that task, as many of these contain {{cn}} tags. I am just beginning to use individual Wikipedia Library accounts to access sources after formerly using remote online library access through a Wikipedian in Residence project that has now wrapped up my phase of participation. Although some of the journals helpful for editing in optical illusions are in the Health & Life Sciences journals, these will probably be more useful to medical science editors; therefore I'm requesting access to the 'Physical Sciences' collections as I feel access to these journals will help me contribute to a wider area of topics. - hzh (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I edit on a variety of subjects, these include molecular biology and biochemistry. ScienceDirect has a number of review journals that would be particular useful for Wikipedia as sources and can help improve the content of its science articles. Access to ScienceDirect would allow me to contribute more to articles in the field of Health & Life Sciences. Hzh (talk) 08:49, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Denied @Hzh: I'm concerned that most of your article creation has focused on reality TV. I see you've done some editing on molecular biology but I'm more apt to award slots to editors already accomplished in this field. Chris Troutman (talk) 05:29, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- THE IT (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Registered wikisource user since October 2013; over 3000 edits in German Wikisource (with some following edits in the german Wikipedia); active in researching publications in physics, chemistry and mathematics; Access would help me improving the research on authors and publications for special topics. - Դավիթ Սարոյան (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Active editor since 2009 over 8000 edits and 500 articles created, I edit biology and biology-related articles in hywiki. I'm a junior researcher at Molecular Biology Institute of RA, molecular biologist researching in the field of virology. I will use Elsevier to improve biology articles in Armenian wiki as well as in my academic study as there's no any institution around me, which provides access to Elsevier.--Դավիթ Սարոյան (talk) 10:18, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Bramfab (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I write a lot on science topics, mainly earth science and I knwow that Elsevier ScienceDirect host journals that would be useful to improve the quality of the contents of my edit. Regards, --Bramfab (talk) 11:54, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- V1adis1av (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email): I would like to get access to the Physical Sciences collection. 19000+ edits in ru-wiki, mainly in physics, chemistry and astronomy. PhD in Nuclear Physics. --V1adis1av (talk) 13:27, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Basie (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email): Editing in WP:MED and WP:NURSE. One of a relatively small number of active nurses on Wikipedia, I also do some work over at suspected copyright violations for which journal access can be very helpful. Health & Life Sciences access would be great as I'm about to lose my current library privileges with the end of the year. Basie (talk) 14:26, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- TopGun (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email)) I've been editing en wikipedia since 8 years and have significant experience in editing all types of topics. Since I'm not a student anymore, my university access of science direct and other science journals has long been revoked which has limited me from contributing much to science and engineering topics, an area which I hold expertise in being an engineer. Hopefully getting access to this will help. I would (tentatively) mainly research applied sciences and materials engineering topics using this access. --lTopGunl (talk) 15:04, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Denied I don't see evidence of significant editing in this field. Chris Troutman (talk) 05:29, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- Chris troutman, that's because I do not have access to research papers or other reliable sources (that mostly in this field have only free abstracts but usually need paid access to full sources) to go for adding significant amount of information. I watchlist articles such as Piezoelectricity but I have been limited to minor contributions in the field. However, I intend to make major contributions if I have access to the journals. --lTopGunl (talk) 17:12, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- It is a "chicken or the egg" question. As I approve accounts I'll certainly keep you in mind. Naturally I have to favor proven contributors in the field since we have to go on faith that editors will make good use of the accounts. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:59, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

- NikosGouliaros (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have been an intermittent contributor to Wikipedia since 2007 and active on an almost daily basis in Wikiproject: Medicine since September 2014. My main focus is cardiology. I have no access to Elsevier ScienceDirect (or any other sources that require subscription) via my institution (public hospital). I have access to Cochrane Library via Wikipedia. I'm interested in the "Health & Life Sciences" stream. Thank you. --NikosGouliaros (talk) 22:07, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

- Olivier Hammam (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email). Less active in the main part of fr.wikipedia the last times, I am a steady contributor in the french version of Help Desk and other help pages for contributors, trying to help users. I wish to acces ScienceDirect to keep academic informations and references that are frequenly requested for sources and informations improvement in articles. - Jtamad (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I'm a relatively new editor, but intend to become active now on articles related to Health & Life Sciences I'm retired now so intend to spend significant time on the effort to improve WP. I'm a former medical writer/editor and med journal editor with degrees in pharmacy and epidemiology. I have no institutional access now so could really use this free access. Thank you. juanTamad 04:52, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

- The Discoverer (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have been an editor since 2006 and have over 3000 edits. I have created pages like Electromagnetic clutch, Bharat Stage emission standards and Friction-plate electromagnetic couplings, and contributed to other science articles. Being an engineer by profession, access to Science Direct would help me to improve science pages through having access to good sources. I haven't been editing much of late, because I am busy offline, but I will be active again eventually. I would like access to physical sciences. The Discoverer (talk) 18:34, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- bellagio99 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I am a social scientist who edits 175 Wikipedia pages. As I am retired, I no longer have access through my university library. The social scienist list would be useful, as the key journal in my field is from Elsevier. Bellagio99 (talk) 21:41, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
- Wifione (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email). I'm an editor and administrator on the English Wikipedia; access to Elsevier ScienceDirect would enable me to improve the many articles I patrol in AfD,[2] especially those related to the fields of social and behavioural science. I'd wish access to Social & Behavioral Sciences journals and books. Thanks. Wifione Message 16:19, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
- IKAl (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email). I'm working on the German Wikipedia especially on articles related to botany. I have written several FA and GA. Access to Elsevier ScienceDirect would help to get information on plants from continents like Africa and South America, for which it is hard to find good sources but also for other special topics. - TheProfessor (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I actively edit for a broad range of topics within the fields of Biology, Conservation, Environment, and Health. My contributions include more than 2000 edits this year, 12 new articles, and contribution to more than 300 articles, many with life and physical science content. I intend to continue to improve and expand scientific content, and access to ScienceDirect will help increase my productivity. Thanks, TheProfessor (talk) 05:12, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

- Formerly 98 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email). I've made about 4200 edits to English Wikipedia this year, almost entirely to medical articles. I've mostly rewritten the Quinolone, Levofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin, and Pharmaceutical industry articles (partly under a previous username Alfred Bertheim), and have made major contributions to most of the antipsychotic and SSRI related articles. It would be good to have access to more journals in the health area as I am mostly reliant on the 10% or so of articles that are free. Formerly 98 (talk) 16:13, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Ozzie10aaaa (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email). I believe I have the required edits and subject matter, it would be very useful for articles in Wikipedia as I currently do 1. "Ebola Virus Epidemic in West Africa" ( one of the most viewed articles), I also am contributing to 2. "Dyslexia". thank you--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 19:27, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
