}} The Tau Theta Chapter [1] of the Zeta Psi Fraternity Incorporated [2]was established on August 20th, 2005 at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT)in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Influenced by the oldest fraternal chapter in Canada, Theta Xi of the University of Toronto and the Tau of Lafayette College, Pennsylvania, the chapter was founded on the principles of Zeta Psi, striving for academic excellence, brotherhood and an experience that would impact the lives of its members beyond University. Currently having over 150 members, the Tau Theta Chapter has had an astounding impact on UOIT and the city of Oshawa, with its continual efforts in hosting and participating in major philanthropic events, such as its signature event the Car Push and Trick or Eat. The Chapter is currently in its 10th year of existence.

About

History

In August of 2003, the Zeta Psi Fraternity Incorporated granted the purposed Tau Theta chapter colony status. This required an interest group of thirty undergraduate men to pledge for one year. The loss of several men over the course of the pledging process delayed the colony from graduating to chapter status for one more year. It would not be until August 20th, 2005 that Zeta Psi would grant the University of Ontario Institute of Technology its first Academic Greek organization. [3] The name Tau Theta comes from Tau (Lafayette College) & Theta Xi (University of Toronto), the two most influential chapters in the creation of Tau Theta. In 2008, the Tau Theta Chapter was a major contributor to the founding and establishment Alpha Sigma Chi, the first female sorority on campus. The Tau Theta Chapter, over its ten years of existence, has established itself as a highly influential organization on and off campus, quickly becoming an award winning chapter and hosting a number of high profile philanthropy events, including it’s annual Car Push, which raised $10,000 in 2013 and Trick or Eat, where in 2013 help collect and donate the single largest amount of canned goods in Ontario. Tau Theta also participates in volunteer work at St. Vincent’s Kitchen in downtown Oshawa and sponsors a child in Africa. There are currently over 150 alumni and undergraduate student members of the Tau Theta Chapter.
