A Protocol Relative URL (PRURL) is a method of linking to an external website so that it automatically uses either HTTP or HTTPS depending on the settings of the user's web browser. PRURL is the preferred method on Wikipedia when a website offers both HTTP and HTTPS, for example Internet Archive and YouTube.
