Dendrogramma is the taxonomic name given to two species, dendrogramma enigmatica and Dendrogramma discoides, discovered in 2014 in a collection of specimens gathered in 1986. The two species have not been assigned to any existing taxonomic hierarchy, and have not been identified as belonging to any of the kingdoms, such as plants, animals or fungi.[1][2]

Description and range

The marine organisms are a few millimeters in length, roughly mushroom shaped, and with a non-symmetrical structure, do not belong to bilateria. They consist of a flattened disc, and a stalk with a mouth on the end. They have an outer skin, with a stomach separated from the skin by a layer of dense gelatinous material.
