Highest attendance for Black Country derby

Good work on tidying up the article. I've been meaning to do some work on this for a while. The highest crowd for a Black Country derby at The Hawthorns was 60,945 on March 4, 1950, (1–1). So did you mean that 56,661 is the highest for a Black Country derby at Molineux? Stearman

Hi. Sorry for overwriting your work on Richard Stearman. We were evidently working on the article at the same time, and I when I glanced at who had edited whilst I had been I only saw the IPs. My own errors when doing the edit meant I accidentally removed the Wolves players category and placed the squad template in the wrong place. However, I am a tad baffled as to why, when adding extra information to the article, you seemingly reverted my entire edit, which had done a fair amount to tidy the page. I had re-written the article so it conformed to styles accepted by WP:FOOTBALL, worked on the prose and added citation tags where required - which you have removed without adding the required verification. If you disagree with any of the stylistic changes made then obviously we can discuss it, but otherwise I'll probably edit the article back to the shape I left it in (whilst keeping the extra information you added, of course). This type of infotmation is available on the index of birth death and marriages at the Public Record Office - it is the register on which all births, deaths and marriages in England and Wales is stored. Now available on CD and online or at local libraries etc., it is therefore both in the public domain and original research in terms of living people rules. Dickie Baugh, Jr

I've added a few bits and have more to add in due course. I wanted to ask you about his name though, as it could affect the article title and hence a possible page move. It needs a full discussion though - I certainly don't want to jump hastily into a page move and then have to move it again. Indeed if there's any doubt I would rather not move the page. Points for possible discussion:

My Matthews book has his first name as Dicky, rather than Dickie. Not a major one, but it would be worth keeping an eye out for further sources to see if there is any consensus on the spelling.
Does the article title need a dot after it? (e.g. like Sammy Davis, Jr.)
In terms of usage of Snr, Jr or both in the article titles, I'm happy to go with your source, since both players played for Wolves whereas only Baugh Jr played for Albion. My Matthews book actually calls them Baugh and Baugh Snr (as opposed to Baugh Jr and Baugh), but I'm pretty sure this is an "Albion point of view", i.e. Baugh Snr didn't play for Albion so is of less interest to the Albion fan reading it. --Jameboy (talk) 23:08, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I should be able to add some details. One thing - I've checked four separate books (three of which are by Tony Matthews, the most recent of which is 2007) and all spell the surname Betteley (no 'r'). Can you double-check your source? Walter Bunch

New page for Walter Bunch: is this the same bloke as this page calls Wilbert Bunch? some of the details are the same, like he played 7 games for Wolves at about the right time, but some are different, like him moving directly on to Walsall with no Bristol Rovers. Thanks. It may be significant that Matthews dropped Bristol Rovers between 1995 when he wrote the Blues book and 2001 when he wrote yours. Although they did have two seasons in the Birmingham & Dist Lge between 1897 and 1899, so it's not as unlikely as it might seem; he could have played the odd game at the end of the 1898/99 season, or possibly agreed to join and then they were gazumped by Walsall. I can confirm that there was a W. Bunch that played for Eastville Rovers at this time. I don't have the dates of him joining or leaving the club, but he scored against Kidderminster Harriers in the Birmingham & District League on 23 March 1898 and played in the Gloucestershire Cup final on 26 February 1898.

I have a theory (also expounded on his talk page), as follows:

Bunch only actually appeared in Wolves' first team in 1896. They couldn't find a use for him, so allowed him to play for Eastville Rovers, while retaining his Football League registration. So when he joined Walsall in 1899, it was Wolves who held his FL registration, so as far as they're concerned, they transferred their player directly to Walsall. But Joyce is still correct that he played for Rovers between the two.

Why have you removed all the numbers from the Wolves squad? Most of the players already have numbers while the new signings are awaiting theirs. Harry Aston

It's only taken me 11 months to get back to you... I did add a few bits to the article. So we have Harry Aston (Harold Mason Aston), but there was also another Albion player called Harry Aston (Henry John Aston). I'm wondering whether to distinguish by year of birth (1855 & 1881) or their full names. Normally the convention seems to be year of birth but as they have distinctly different full names I'm thinking that might be better. 1958–59 Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. season and European Cup results

Hi Wolvesweb. I noticed you changed the European Cup results in the infobox of 1958–59 Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. season from first to second round back in April. The page it links to, 1958–59 European Cup#Second round, indicates Wolverhampton only made it to the first round however (and the article doesn't have a Second Round section, so the section link doesn't work properly). I was thinking of changing it back to First Round, but figured I'd ping you, as you would know far more than I about it. Could you take a look at it for me if you get a chance? Thanks. The Preliminary round of the 1958–59 European Cup was infact known as the first round. Many clubs got byes which makes it look like it was a preliminary round only. I have researched this from newspapers of the time and had begun working on the 1958–59 European Cup article in a txt file (with this change of name plus formatting the games to match current Champions League wiki formatting), to be adding to the wiki when I was through (I'm currently at the Qtr Final stage). So obviously therefore what is currently listed as "First round" on the wiki was really the second round. Hence my alterations to the Wolves season page. I expect it keeps you pretty busy, but I have a couple of suggestions you might consider taking on if you have time: On the Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. article, perhaps you could add (a table of) links to the various Wolves “season” articles. Also on the Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. article, in the Players section there is a note saying the additional under-21 players are marked in italics – but they aren’t. And a cross-cultural issue: On the 2011–12 Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. season article (possibly in a template), a crucifix-style cross is used to identify permanent players who left club during the season. In many countries (including, for example, Austria), that symbol after a person’s name means “deceased” – which looks a bit harsh on Stefan Maierhofer. I hope these are helpful.
