Allen Say (1939-) is a Japanese-American author and illustrator, best known for his book Grandfather's Journey, a book detailing his grandfather' voyage from Japan to the United States and back again, which won the 1994 Caldecott Medal. He was born in Yokohama, Japan and worked under his favorite cartoonist, Noro Shinpei, for many years. His first children's bookwas published in 1972. He lives in Portland, Oregon.
