Generic sensor format

The generic sensor format (GSF) is a file format used for storing bathymetry data, such as that gathered by a multibeam echosounder.[1] The format was created by Scott Ferguson and Daniel A. Chayes.[2]

Up until 2013, specifications and source code for a library to read and write GSF files were available from Science Applications International Corporation's Maritime division.[3] When SAIC was restructured and renamed to Leidos, the GSF project was retained by Leidos. As of July 2014, Leidos' website includes a page about GSF, but specifications and source code are not downloadable.[1]

The GSF library documentation states that it "may be distributed without restriction", but contains no license for use.[4][needs update]
