Direct Injection - also known as D.I. may refer to: Direct Injection Unit:
- a method of music production whereby studio instruments, especially bass guitars, can be plugged directly into a mixing console for a better, more present signal and sound. This is as opposed to miking up a bass amplifier.
It converts the High impedence(HiZ) output of a electric guitar pickup, to a low impedance(LoZ) output, suitable for connection to a microphone/line input of a audio mixer.
This techinque was developed by Audio Engineers at Abby Road Studios durring the mid 60's for the Beatles.
