A quibble is a common plot device, used to fulfill the exact verbal conditions of an agreement in order to avoid the intended meaning.

Quibbles are frequently used to thwart wishes. In one of Aesop's fable, Zeus agreed to give the bee a wish; when she asked that her sting be fatal, he agreed, and added that it would be fatal to her.
