Rao Surtan Singh

Rao Surtan Singh (राओ सुरतन सिंह) was the 12th Rao of Bundi (बूंदी), ruling from 1531 to 1544. He was the son of Rao Suraj Mal, 11th Rao of Bundi. His mother was daughter of Maharana Sangram Singh of Mewar.[1]

Surtan married Rani Sahiba Sisodniji, a daughter of Rawat Sakta (or Shakti) Singh of Udaipur, but died without issue. Succeeded by a cousin, Rao Raja Arjun Singh, he was the last ruler of Bundi without the title "raja". Rao Surtan Singh is generally also known for being enemies with Rana Udai Singh of Mewar. He had a strong bonding with Mughal Emperor Akbar's right hand man, Bairam Khan. In the war of Bundi, Rao Surtan reached the gates of Bijolia, where Rana Udai Singh's wives were hiding due to the war. He called Dheerbaiji :"Sugandha wali rani", and wanted to maintain a relationship with her. Soon after the war Udai Singh got news that his wives were in danger and rushed to Bijolia, killing all of Rao Surtan's men. He then reached Surtan, then unarmed. He ordered Surtan to be locked in acoffin with a dagger, and buried. However, Rao Surtan was said to have survived this punishment, and have sworn to take revenge on Udai Singh.but he was killed in a punishment given by akbar he was ordered to locked in a room and get no food and water and no female come near his room and if he tries to escape kill him and he was locked there forever.He described to be very harsh and was called as ill-starred idealist. His generals were Tirathmal and Vir Singh.His army consisted of 10,000 infantry and 4,000 calvary.He was a very harsh ruler and also used to tourcher panna dai. he was not so used to war instruments like other rajput ruler such as udai singh. He used always be scared og pratap singh.When pratap used to sakha veer that time he fought with pratap and pratap threw him in dirty water where his soldiers even coudnt identify him
